Explanation: Here satan is conversing to the fallen angel Beelzebub, he is trying to motivate
him by saying that how wonderful you were and how you comesdown (Zawal ana). How you
faced the defeat and your glory just perished

2- From him, who in the happy realms of light

Urdu (Apni is hasiyat se Jo tumhari khushiyun ki jagah *Jannat* mein thi)
Explanation: In this line the satan is talking to the Beelzebub and recalling him the past that
how he used to live in the heaven

3- Clothed with transcendent brightness didst outshine

Urdu: (Jo aala chamakdar Libas mein mabloos hoty thy aur roshni phelaty thy)
Explanation: He satan is saying that belzebub who possessed the special and beautiful light
which was very bright and shinning.

4- Myriads though bright: If he whom mutual league,

Urdu: (Hazarun lakho par jab ky who bhi roshan thy *Beelzebub roshni mein lakho farishto par
bhi zoor tha* Kia tum wahi ho?)
Explanantion: He satan is saying that there used to be countless angels but you were special
and your light used to subdue thousands of angels.

5- United thoughts and counsels, equal hope

Urdu: (Souch mashwary dene aur umeed aur kamiyabi mein mere Coequal *Having the same
rank* thy)
Explanation: Here the satan is trying to blackmail and emotionally hijack the belzebub by telling
him about the past and about their close friendship and their hopes for success.

6- And hazard in the glorious enterprise,

Urdu: Shandaar mohim *Aim* k liyea khof zada thy)
Explanation: Here the satan is telling him about the risk and fear of failure in the great mission.

7- Joined with me once, now misery hath joined

Urdu: (Jisay aik dafa mere sath milaya gaya, ab khasta haali chaa chuki hai)
Explanation: Here the satan is telling the belzebub that who once helped him and joined him in
the heaven and now again our misery and bad luck have made us joined together.

8- In equal ruin: into what pit thou seest

Urdu: (Masawi (Mutual) tabahi k sath, tumhen kis gad’hy mein dal diyea gaya hai)
Explanation: Here satan is saying that the disaster that have fallen upon US is the equal share
of ours and to what a lowest position you’ve been thrown into.
 9- From what heighth fallen, so much the stronger proved
Urdu: (Tumhen kis kadar bulandi se giraya gaya hai. Kis kadar taqatwar sabit howa hai)
Explanation: Here satan is telling the fallen angel that you can comprehend that we have been
fallen from such an extreme height and glorious position of heaven. Satan continues by saying
the powerful one with his power has proved to be so strong

10- He with his thunder: and till then who knew.

Urdu: (Who apne ayz or ghazab *wrath* k sath, aur is waqt tak kon janta thaa)
Explanation: Here the satan is saying that the Almighty with his might and wrath has been
proved to be so strong and before that who knew that.

11- The force of those dire arms? yet not for those,
Urdu: In Haibat naak bazuwun ki taqat ko? Phir bhi woh nahe.
Explanation: Satan continues to say that before that who knew that these arms will be so
powerful and strong before that nobody has ever tested the power of his arms. No non has
ever before tested them.

12- Nor what the Potent Victor in his rage

Urdu: (Na he ab woh zoor dar fatiha *Winner* apne ghusse mein*
Explanation: And nobody knew that the Almighty could throw such an extreme punishment our
of his anger.

13- Can else inflict, do I repent or change,

Urdu: (Humen kiya kiya aziyat dy sakta hy, kiya mein pashtaon ya phir badal jaon)
Explanation: Here the satan is saying the God out of his anger can inflict US with other things.
Furthermore satan says that because of it he didn’t repent nor he changed and his internal his
psyche hasn’t been changed.

14- Though changed in outward luster; that fixed mind

Urdu: (Agar chy zahiri chamak badal bhi jai tou, jo mere zahen mein muqarar hai)
Explanation: Satan says as he was in the heaven there was an outward shine and brilliance but
still his mind is fixed and determined.

15- And high disdain, from sense of injured merit,

Urdu: (Aur ala rutby ko khone pe jo baizati)
Explanation: Here satan tells the belzebub that he has a very high sense of disdain/contempt
for God because God never recognized his merit and insulted him and because of that He has
hate in his heart for God.

16- That with the mightiest raised me to contend,

Urdu: (Jiski wajjah se is taqatwar dushman ne mujhe muqabla karne pe majboor kariya)
Explanation: Satan says because of this reason I’ve decided to fight against the satan
 17- And to the fierce contention brought along
Urdu: (Aur ghusaili *Filled with anger* Daleelon *Excuses* k sath)
Explanation: Satan says in this battle he brought with himself.

18- Innumerable force of spirits armed

Urdu: (Laa taad musalah *Armed* Farishton ki fouj)
Explanation: Here satan says countless angels having arms joined him.

19- That durst dislike his reign, and me preferring

Urdu: (Jinhun ne is k khilaf warzi karke mjhe chun’ne ki jurat ki)
Explanation: Satan tells about his army of spirits that all of them have never liked the God and
disliked God’s kingdom and rule. They all choose to follow me instead of God.

20- His utmost power with adverse power opposed

Urdu: (K mein is ki bhaar poor taqat ka apni bar aqs taqat k sath mukhalifat karun)
Explanation: Satan says that God is omnipotent and he possess all the power and we with our
adverse powers have opposed his powers.

21- In dubious battle on the plains of Heaven,

Urdu: (Maidan e bihist *Jannat* ki ghar muqarara Jang mein*
Explanation: Here satan is saying that he was the commander of spirits and I had with me
belzebub and other sprites who together fought a battle whose result was doubtful which was
faught on the field of heavens

22- And shook his throne. What though the field be lost?
Urdu: (Aur is k takht ko hila doon, agar is maidan mein shikast howi tou kia hoga)
Explanation: Here satan says that we faught such an immense battle that we moved and shook
the throne of God. Satan continues to tell belzebub that what matters even though we’ve lost.

23- All is not lost; the unconquerable will,

Urdu: (Sub khatam nahe howa, na qabil e fatah irada)
Explanation: In this line satan tells that it doesn’t matter If the we’ve lost the battle still we
haven’t lost our everything and our will and determination hasn’t been lost and God has not
defeated it.

24- And study of revenge, immortal hate,

Urdu: (Aur inteqam ka jazbaa aur kabhi na khatam hone wali Nafrat)
Explanation: Satan tells that our passion of revenge against the God will never perish and we
have such an hatred towards God which is forever and ever living.
 25- And courage never to submit or yield.
Urdu: (Aur kabhi na jhukne aur har man’ne wala jazba).
Explanation: Satan talks about his inner courage that we will never submit against the God and
we will never back off from our mission.

26- And what is else not to be overcome?

Urdu: (Aur In k ilawa kiya cheez hai jis pe kabu na paya ja saky)
Explanation: Satan tells that if we still possess all these things then it means we haven’t lost the
battle against God.

27- That glory never shall his wrath or might

Urdu: (Is ki azmat, ghussa, ya taqat)
Explanation: Satan says that he will never submit against God and if I ever submitted to him
then It will be the Glory for God. His power and his anger can never take this sense of disdain
and determination from me.

28- Extort from me. To bow and sue for grace

Urdu: (Zabardasti mjh se meri shinakht ko cheeen sakti hai, khuda k same khukna aur ilteja
karna)
Explanation: Here satan says that bowing infront of God or begging him for pardon.

29- With suppliant knee, and deify his power,

Urdu: (ghutne tika kar aur uski taqat ka inkar karna)

30- Who from the terror of this arm so late

Urdu: (Jis ne apni khof nak taqat se)
Explanation: Here the satan connects the line 28, 29, 30 and 31 by saying in a pride that with his
arms and power once God doubted that His empire will sustain or not and now as I’ve lost the
battle so I should submit myself to God

31- Doubted his empire, that were low indeed,

Urdu: Apni salta’nat ko shikhast mein dal diyea hai, jo ghaliban kamzoor thi aur haqarat amaiz
thi)
Explanation: Satan says that If I submitted to God now that would be a shame for him.

32- That were an ignominy and shame beneath

Urdu: (Jo ruswai aur sharmindagi ki bat hai)
Explanation: Satan says my submission would be nothing but humiliation and disgraceful. Satan
further says as I’ve fallen into the pits of hell but if I were to repent and ask for his forgiveness
that would be more shameful for me as compared to my downfall into hell.
 33- This downfall; since by fate the strength of gods
Urdu: (Yeh zawal khuda ki taraf se kismet mein tha)
Explanation: Satan says that this downfall of ours was meant to happen as it was already
planned and written in our fate.

34- And this empyreal substance cannot fail,

Urdu: (Aur yeh khudai farishte kabhi naqam nahe ho sakty)
Explanation: Here satan says that we are made of up a special substances which is heavenly
and we are immortal so we cannot perish and fail in this battle.

35- Since through experience of this great event

Urdu: (Chu’ky is azeem waqiyeh k tajruby k zariye)
Explanation: Satan says that this experiences of fighting a battle against the God and we’ve
come to know that we are not less than God in any strength or bravery. Satan says what if God
has won the battle but we’re no less than Him in anyway.

36- In arms not worse, in foresight much advanced,

Urdu: (Woh taqat mein nahe balky basarat *To fore see things* mein zyada hai*
Explanation: Here satan makes a claim by saying that we are no less than him in bravery but
also in foreseeing things.

37- We may with more successful hope resolve

Urdu: (Hum is se zyada kamiyab umeed k sath irada kar sakty hein)
Explanation: Here satan says we can continue our revenge and battle against the God with firm
and successful hope and make an aim.

38- To wage by force or guile eternal war

Urdu: (Is jang ko taqat ya chalaki se )
Explanation: Satan speaks to belzebub that we can continue our mission by trying different
things it can be by waging a war and by force or we can do it in a subtle way or guile and
decieving.

39- Irreconcilable, to our grand Foe.

Urdu: (Apne bary dushman k samne)
Explanation: Satan says we will never submit ourself to God which he calls a great enegy and go
back to heaven.

40- Who now triumphs, and in the excess of joy

Urdu: (Jo ab jeeta hai aur bhot khush hai)
Explanation: Satan says that God who has won a battle and is a winner now is in immense
happiness and Joy
Sole reigning holds the tyranny of Heaven.
Urdu: (Aur akela he zabardasti jannat par hakomat kar raha hai)
Explanation: Satan says that God is ruling the heaven alone as a tyrant in a forceful way.
