MAXWELL’S EQUATIONS

His equations united electricity and

magnetism and created the
electromagnetic theory, which
helped in explaining the nature of
light.

This inspired physicists to unit all

the forces into one unified theory.

4
THE GRAND UNIFIED THEORY

5
PROGRESS IN UNIFICATION

After Maxwell, Einstein tried to unify his theory of relativity and

quantum mechanics, but he failed. After him a few physicists have
brought together the electromagnetic and weak forces together to a
theory called electroweak theory. It’s actually every physicists dream
to unify the fundamental forces to one. Stephen Hawking, one of the
smartest physicists, wanted a unified field theory. We should really
be ready for this theory in the future.

6
WHAT CHANGES WOULD
UNIFIED FIELD THEORY
BRING?

Well, when the forces are unified, we get a

common source for all the forces, which
would explain the conditions that prevailed
during the Big Bang, and even solve the
mystery of the spacetime curvature, may
help us time travel, travel at speeds closer
to light.

FUTURE ENERGY
8
This scale was proposed by Nikolai
Kardashev, in 1964. This scale
measures, the technological
advancement of a civilization on the
basis of the amount of energy used.

The scale is hypothetical, and regards energy consumption on a cosmic

scale. Various extensions of the scale have since been proposed,
including a wider range of power levels (types 0, IV and V) and the use of
metrics other than pure power.

OUR PLACE AND PROGRESS

Futurist Michio Kaku suggests that humans may attain

TYPE I - 100 to 200 years
TYPE II - A few thousand years
TYPE III - 100,000 tp a million years
As, the American astronomer Carl Sagan puts it, humanity is
going through a phase of technical adolescence, “typical of a
civilization about to integrate the type I Kardashev scale”.

FUTURE SPACE EXPLORATION
The future is in the Space!

13
FUTURE OF HUMAN
SPACE EXPLORATION

The future of manned space exploration is

bright, according to some space experts.
Humans may one day tread across some of
the alien worlds that today can be studied
only at a distance. Closer to home, private
industries like SpaceX and Mars One seek to
establish a permanent settlement on the Red
Planet.

14
DEEP SPACE TRAVEL

The future possibilities for deep space exploration are

currently held back by a set of technical, practical,
astronomical, and human limitations, which define the
future of manned and unmanned space exploration.
As of 2017, the farthest any man-made probe has
traveled is the current NASA mission Voyager 1,
currently about 13 billion miles (21 billion km), or 19.5
light hours away from the Earth, while the nearest star
is around 4.24 light years away. Voyager 2 has also
reached the interstellar space.

CAPTURING A
BLACK HOLE
HOW WILL A
BLACK HOLE LOOK LIKE?

The Event Horizon telescope is a planet sized

telescope, that has set its sight on two targets,
Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole on the
centre of our galaxy and on an even a bigger one
named Messier 87. The results are important because
it may redefine what we know about the space itself.
According to the Theory of Relativity, the shadow of
the event horizon cast by the accretion disk of the
black hole should be circular. And understanding their
formation and dynamics could be the ultimate test for
the Theory of Relativity.
