Ana Montemayor: She is the perfect girl that has the “perfect” life.
Alejandro Montemayor: Ana’s father, a wealthy businessman. He’s hard and very demanding
towards Ana because he wants her to be successful and not be a disappointment like his son.
He’s very handworking and is very proud of everything he has accomplished.
Ana María Córdova de Montemayor: Ana’s mother and Alejandro’s wife. She lived in
Guadalajara and moved to Los Angeles to chase her dream of being a model and met Alejandro
years later, got married and had Javier and Ana. She was always involved in her children life
but then became sick and lost connection.
Javier Montemayor: The son of Ana Maria and Alejandro, Ana’s brother. He is 19 years old the
eldest of two and has always been a trouble maker but has always protected his little sister. His
mother sickness has affected his life.
Emily Thomas: Ana’s “best friend” she’s known her since 5th grade. She is secretly jealous of
Ana and wants to be her.
Zack: Ana’s boyfriend, he is nice but can be a jerk sometimes. Zack’s family is wealthy and owns
lots of companies. He is a football player (jock) who feels entitled.
Liam: Ana’s best guy friend they’ve known each other since they were 4 years old. He’s always
had Ana’s back; he is secretly in love with her. His mom is Ana’s mom best friend they’ve known
each other since they were young. He is a soccer player and hangs out with Ana and her friends.
Katie: she is one of Ana’s close friend.
Maddie: she is one of Ana’s close friend.
Act 1
It’s 2009 in Malibu a beautiful summer day.
Ana is 17 years old girl living a perfect life she’s going to The Royal Blue high school (a
private school in Malibu), she has what everyone desires: the car, the house, the friends, the
family and a perfect boyfriend. She is a smart and talented girl that has lots of dreams and
aspirations, yet she is unaware that her biggest fear is disappointing others, shell do what I takes
to stay popular, until she discovered the dreadful news that her mother was suffering from lung
cancer, she realized her perfect world would soon be changing.
Ana (In school hallway): Hey girl what’s up, what’s going on later?
Emily (with an annoyed face): don’t you remember, how can you forget it’s Ashely’s
birthday...(eye roll)
Ashely is in the same friend group as Ana and them
Ana (disturbed face): What! I am sorry, it’s just that I have been so busy because of my mom…
(she looks down) you know the cancer.
Emily (annoyed): I know that’s all you’ve talked about all week, but don’t let it get in the way of
our plans OK!
Ana: Alright, of course not, wait girls I want to show you guys something, look what my Dad got
for me. (she shows them a Rolex)
The girls: OMG OMG OMG!! I love it!
Katie: But why? The grading period is not over yet?
Ana(smiling): I know, but he thinks I am sad or whatever because of my mom (moment of
awkward silence) Ok girls I have to go, my brother is calling me.
The girls: Bye! See you later.
She walks straight out of the hall with a smile and into the driveway where she sees her brother
in a Mercedes-Benz G-class
Javier (with exaggerated smile opens the door): What’s up little sis, why are you so happy all the
time?
An a(bothered): And why shouldn’t I be?
Javier (still smiling): Well just because our mother is dying.
Ana (eye roll): well yes but you don’t have to be like that.
Javier(worried): Are you really ok?
Ana (roll eyes): Omg really stop being so dramatic, everything is going to be ok.
Act 2
Days passed by and Ana Maria, Ana’s mother, has been really struggling with her cancer, so
she was placed at a hospital where they believe she is stable. The took many tests to see what the
doctors could do. Her family is waiting for her in the waiting room to see the results of the tests.
Doctor Phillips *comes dashing down the hallway avoiding eye contact*
Alejandro Montemayor(worried): Doctor what’s happening? Is my wife going to be OK? How
where the results of tests?
Doctor Phillips: I am sorry to say that there isn’t much we can do about it. She doesn’t qualify
for the program that I had in mind, her cancer is too far progressed. I think it’s a good idea if you
where to take her home so she can be comfortable.
Alejandro Montemayor (drops his head and has a tear down his cheek): No! No! No! No! how
can it be, we have had her under treatment all this time.
Doctor Phillips: I am sorry sir.
Ana (looks to her brother filed with tears): it’s over, why! Why!
Javier (Hugs Ana and softly cries): It’s Ok, Ok. I am here for you.
Alejandro (softly crying): Go and see your mother.
Javier and Ana go to see their mother
Ana Maria (looking really sick): Hey kids it’s ok, don’t cry. Everything is going to be ok.
*hugging them*
Alejandro (comes in the rooms with red eyes and tears coming down his face): Ok, let’s go
home.
Ana Maria: I think that’s a good idea.
They went home, and that afternoon when everyone was together
Ana Maria (with hope in her eyes): Javier, I love you so much, don’t let anyone stop you on
achieving your dreams Ok.( pause and cries) And you Ana, don’t let the world dictate you, be
you own person, be good and follow your heart, I love you my baby girl.(pause and cries)
Alejandro, my one true love thank you for everything, for these wonderful children, I love you.
Those where the last words that Ana heard from her mother.
Act 3
Days have passed from her mothers’ death, and her brother left to travel the world.
Alejandro (emotionless): Ana have you done everything that you had to do?
Ana: Yes, like always. Dad, why have you been coming home so late? Last night you came
home like at 2am.
Alejandro: I am the one who ask’s the questions here not you alright! Understood…
Ana: Yes, understood.
Alejandro: Well like I was saying have you done you everything.
Ana(annoyed): Yes! I already told you.
Alejandro(angry): I need you to understand that you can’t turn out like your brother. You need to
carry one the name of this family. (small pause) Is your brother crazy where does he think all
that money is coming from?
Ana: Ok dad I have to go.
Alejandro: Ok remember we have a dinner with the Smiths. Come early.
She leaves and goes with her friends
Emily: Hey girl, how are you?
Ana: Good.
Emily: OK ready to party.
Ana: wait what? What party? You never said anything about a party?
Emily: You don’t want to go. (sarcastic) or what are you still to sad Boohoo grow up. You have
to go everyone is going, do you what to become a loser.
Ana (on the bridge of tears): But, but, Ok.
Emily: You know this is what you need, just a little bit of tequila and you will forget about
everything.
Kati: Omg girls! Ready!
Maddie: YESSSS, omg Ana I have a friend that I want you to meet he is so cute.
Ana: I don’t know about that, what about Zack I don’t want to do that to him.
Maddie: Emily’s right, you have become such a loser.
Zack: Let’s go! Everyone ready to have a good time!
Everyone: Yes!
Liam comes, to the car and pulls Ana to the side
Liam (worried): Are you sure you want to go, you know with … (he looks down)
Ana: My mothers death
Liam: Yeah, I just don’t think that’s the environment you should be in, you know I can take you
home or we can go watch a movie.
Ana: No one’s at my house my Dad left, and if I don’t go, I will be the “the girl that her mom
died and now she is a nobody.”
Liam: Do you really care what they say?
Ana: Just stop I am going. Just please remind me that I must be home a 10:30 I have a dinner.
 Act 4
They arrive to the party
(background music)
Ana (gets a phone call): Hey who is this?
Javier: Me little sis. I miss you, how are you? Where are you? Are you in a party?
Ana: Hey! Yes, I am good. I am at a party.
Javier: At a party it has been four days that my mom passed away. Are you alright do you what
me to could back?
Ana: I can’t hear that well, but I am fine, I will call you later.
Javier: Ok, love you take care.
Emily: Come on let’s go dance don’t be a party pooper.
(takes Ana by the hand)
Zack (starts give Ana drinks): Here take it so you can lighten up.
It’s 10 and Ana has been drinking, Liam comes and finds her, making out with Zack.
Liam (screaming): what the hell’s happening! (separating Ana and Zack)
Zack: what the hell get away!
Liam (pushing Zack away): No, leave her alone don’t you see her she drunk, and she been
through so much.
Zack: what are you talking about she is just like any other girl, a hoe.
Liam punches Zack, and takes Ana
Act 5
Liam takes Ana to her house and drop her off there.
Liam (worried face): I am so sorry; I am not a good friend sorry.
Ana (can barely open her eyes): It’s okay I am fine; I have to go alright.
Alejandro (opens the door and staring directly at Ana with fears eyes): What the hell do you
think you are doing? You’re drunk, what are people going to think about us? Are guests are
coming in 10 mins. (Grabs her by her arm) Go and change you filthy thing!
Ana(annoyed): okay Dad.
Ana changes and goes down stairs where the guests are coming in.
Ana (with a smile): Hey John, Hey Carla, Hey Thomas.
The Smiths are a wealthy family that work with Ana Father. Alejandro hopes that Ana will marry
the son of there family to keep the alliance between there families.
Everyone sits in the table to eat.
Ana (smiling and with a straight posture): How have you been John?
John (smiling looking like a pretty mannequin): Great, I have been practicing golf for the next
tournament you should come and see me, and how have you been with tennis?
Ana (still smiling but with a green tint on her face): Yes, of course I will come and watch you,
and yea I have been doing good in tennis.
John (smiling): What about this week I will texts you all the details?
Ana (still smiling but with a really green tint on her face): Yes that will be great. Pardon me can
you excuse me for one second.
Ana goes running to the bathroom and vomits, her father runs to get her.
Alejandro (with a disgusted face): We will talk later. Go upstairs.
Ana (looking sick): But we have guests.
Alejandro(angry): Just go upstairs alright!
Ana leaves and goes upstairs
Act 6
The next morning
Ana: What is this? (Emily send me a video and a text saying, “your done I sent it to everyone”)
Ana starts sobbing when she realizes it’s a video of her drunk and making a fool of herself. In
that moment her brother comes in the room.
Javier (really happy): I am back, (realizes that Ana is crying) What happen are you okay?
Ana(sobbing): Why are you here?
Javier(worried): When you called me, I realized something was wrong, so I got a plane ticket
and came right away. But what’s wrong tell me?
Ana (still sobbing): It’s cause, last night I made some bad decision and Emily took a video of me
and sent it to everybody.
Javier (Mad): What the hell isn’t Emily your best friend? Really what type of people are they?
Ana(sobbing): Yes, my “best friend”.
Javier (really mad): Who do you want to impress? Them?
Ana(sobbing):( having trouble breathing) Dad, if he finds out that there is a video about me
doing all that I am dead, and what are people going to think about me.
Javier(mad): What do you care what people think about you, look you want to fit in after what
happened with my mom and look how those people repay you, why do you want those type of
people in your life. And who cares about dad he needs to understand you are a teenager and what
you’re going thought is tough.
Ana (sobbing): I know this, I just had all my feeling locked up because of what people wanted
me to be.
Javier (mad): Those people that did that to you are idiots. I am going to-
Ana: It’s okay, don’t do anything
Javier (soft eyed): you only need the people who love you and care about you, and don’t be so
hard on yourself okay. Love you.
Act 7
Javier leaves and later that day, Alejandro knocks on Ana’s door.
Ana: Come in.
Alejandro: Hey, how are you?
Ana: I am fine.
Alejandro: I heard you talking with your brother earlier.
Ana: Oh, you did? I’m sorry I didn’t mean to do any of those things yesterday! I let them get to
my head.
Alejandro: I know honey! Its ok, you’re mourning I understand, I just wished you would have
talked to me instead.
Ana: I’m sorry. This week has been so difficult. And the last thing I wanted was to disappoint
you as well.
Alejandro: I know I can be a like hard on you sometimes, but I want you to know that I will
always love you no matter what.
Ana (crying): Thanks dad. I love you too.
Alejandro (hugging Ana): listen to your brother, you need to realize that proving yourself to
those people is not important, you need to learn to appreciate the people you know love and
support you like Javier, Liam and me.
Ana: I know, I can’t believe how ignorant was to ignore all of this, but now I know that I don’t
need to prove myself to anyone. I just have to do my best and always be myself, and the people
that truly love me will be there to support me.
