VeriSTAR Hull installation

Scope
The purpose of this document is to explain the different steps to install:

 FEMAP 2019.1 MP1

 VeriSTAR Hull 5.16

The version of VeriSTAR Hull 5.16 needs the following software to be installed on your computer:

 Windows 64 bits Operating System

 FEMAP 2019.1 MP1

 Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1

FEMAP 2019.1 MP1 and VeriSTAR Hull 5.16

installation
Perform the following steps with administrator privileges:

1. Install FEMAP 2019.1 MP1 following the setup procedure.

During this installation:

a. Select at least the following features:

b. Select the licensing method according to your needs: Node locked Dongle or Network
Client.

2. Launch FEMAP 2019.1 MP1 program with the option Run as administrator.

3. Only for network client licensing method, go to Help->About-> Security in order to define the
server address in the License File field:

4. A graphic card which supports at least OpenGL 4.2 is required by FEMAP 2019.1 MP1. To
check that, launch FEMAP 2019.1 MP1 and go to the FEMAP message window:

If you graphic card doesn't support OpenGL 4.2 or more, update the drivers of the graphic card.

5. In FEMAP 2019.1 MP1, Go to File->Preferences to define your preferences. See the next
paragraph User Configuration for more information.

6. Install VeriSTAR Hull 5.16 following the setup procedure.

If the installation is not performed by the end user of VeriSTAR Hull or the computer is used
by several users, it’s recommended to select the option Everyone (default option):

7. Launch VeriSTAR Hull 5.16 and go to Help->License to define the license parameters.

User configuration
For each user, when FEMAP 2019.1 MP1 and VeriSTAR Hull 5.16 are installed, launch FEMAP
2019.1 MP1:

1. Go to File->Preferences to define your preferences. See the FEMAP help for more
information. Please find below some interesting options for VeriSTAR Hull use.

a. In the User Interface Tab, don’t active the option ”Reverse Mouse Wheel Direction” in order
to have the same behavior of FEMAP 9.31. Spinning the mouse wheel up (away from the
user) will zoom in, while spinning the mouse wheel down (towards the user) will zoom out on
the model.

b. In the User Interface tab - Dynamic Zoom/Rotation around Cursor Location :

When these options are on:

o Scrolling the middle mouse wheel or clicking and dragging the mouse with the
Shift key held down will zoom in/out around the location of the cursor (instead of
around the center of the graphics window otherwise)
o Rotates around an automatically selected location on the model near the current
location of the cursor (instead of around the center of the view or rotation center
otherwise)
These options can be activated separately in File / Preferences / User Interface:

c. To improve significantly the graphic performance, active the option Best possible in the
Graphics tab:

d. In order to select entities by combining “Pick front” with area picking (Box, Circle, Polygon,
or Freehand), activate the “Fast Pick Visible” option in File / Preferences / Graphics:

2. Customise the FEMAP window selecting active toolbars and panes.

Note:

If several versions of VeriSTAR Hull based on different FEMAP versions (e.g VH5.15 based on
FEMAP 11.4.2 and VH 5.16 based on FEMAP 2019.1 MP1) are installed on the computer, it’s
necessary that the end users have the administrator privileges to switch between these VeriSTAR Hull
versions. If it’s the case, it’s necessary to run FEMAP and VeriSTAR Hull with the option Run as
administrator.

Graphic card configuration

Please apply the following procedure when different graphic cards are available on the computer (e.g
for laptop). The purpose of this procedure is to define which graphic card should be used for FEMAP.

1. Go to “Control Panel”.

2. Click on “NVIDIA Control Panel” :

3. In the tree “3D Settings”, click on “Manage 3D settings”

4. In the tab “Program Settings”, if FEMAP is not in the list “1. Select a program to
customize”, click on the button “Add”:

5. Select “Femap – Finite Element Modeling and PostProcessing Application” in the list
or click on “Browse” in order to select the femap.exe file. Then click on the button “Add
Selected Program”.

6. Select “Siemens Femap” in the menu “1. Select a program to customize” and select
“High-performance NVIDIA processor” in the menu “2. Select the preferred graphics
processor for this program”:

7. Click on “Apply”.

Display problems with Windows 10

If you experience display problems with Windows 10, please apply the following steps:

1. Click right on VeriSTAR Hull program and select Properties

2. Click on Run Compatibility troubleshooter

3. Select Troubleshoot program

4. Select the option: The program opens but doesn’t display correctly then click on Next.

5. Select the option: Program does not display properly when large scale front settings are
selected then click on Next.

Problem with Help of VeriSTAR Hull

If VeriSTAR Hull crashes when you launch the help, please replace the existing file HHActiveX.dll in
the folder (C:\FEMAPv1132) by the new one available on https://file.ac/nGR24Q5W--8/.
