Saputara
Saputara is an ultimate escape for the people who love to
immerse themselves amidst the beauty of nature. Just as
the monsoon hits the state, this part brims with lush
greenery. This hill-station in Gujarat echoes the beauty of
nature by its beautifully adorned jungles and blooming
which have a residue of a raindrop on them.

Gira Waterfalls
Take a glimpse of the most panoramic view of the
magnificent Gira Waterfalls which is one of the finest
attractions in Satpura. Falling from a height of 150 feet, the
gushing sound of the water and the lush greenery
surrounding the place is just what a nature lover would
crave during the monsoon season in Gujarat.
Wilson Hills
Situated at an elevation of 2500 ft. above sea level, Wilson
Hills is a magnificent place that is equally enjoyable in
rains as well as in the summers. Covered by a lush
forested area that houses the Pangarbari Wildlife
Sanctuary, this hill station provides a peek at the huge
sea from its top. In fact, it is among those few hills in the
world from where the sea is visible. You can get a taste of
the locally grown mangoes if you decide to visit this place
in the summers. You can get here either via a long drive
of 130 km from Surat or by train from Valsad.

Vadla
Home to various migratory birds that set flight to reach
this place during the winter season, this place is the
perfect spot for bird-watching with Nal Sarovar Bird
Sanctuary on board. You can drive up to this bird-
paradise from Ahmedabad and it is only at a distance of
80 Kms approx. Witnessing the beautiful birds in their
natural habitat is a view worth visiting this place for!
Ahmedabad
The largest city in Gujarat, Ahmedabad is probably the
first place you visit in the state, for a look at some of the

culture and with a rich heritage, making it a must visit for

Rann Of Kutch

Junagadh
A great place for all history buffs, Junagadh has plenty of
monuments waiting to be explored. Located in close

Surat
Called as the city of flyovers and amongst the topmost

Diu
Diu is just the place to be if you wish to traverse through
powdery-white sand and charming waves splashing

Gandhinagar

Dwarka
Dwarka is one of the famed and highly revered “Char
Dham” Hindu pilgrimages. It is considered to be the
ancient kingdom of Lord Krishna, and also the very first
capital of the state of Gujarat. Perched on the mouth of
River Gomti on the Arabian Sea, Dwarka is a holy

Laxmi Vilas Palace, Vadodara

Sayajirao Gaekwad III, it was the largest private
dwelling unit in the world. Does that give an idea of its
size? The palace compound covers an area of more
than 700 acres, and houses several other buildings
such as the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum and

Lothal
If you are an ancient history buff then a visit to Lothal
would be right up your alley! Lothal is considered to be
one of the most important sites of the Indus Valley
Civilization, and is also one of the most well preserved
ones. There is also a small museum here, which is home
to relics of an era gone by, including cooking utensils,
jewelry, apparels, gemstones and scrolls, for an in-depth

Champaner-Pavagadh Park
Beautifully lying amongst the Pavagadh hills and the
centre of Champaner city in Gujarat, the archaeological
park is one of the main sites to explore in this state and
is also declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Combining both Islamic and Hindu designs of fine
architecture, this park is surely nothing less than a
sight to behold.
Rani ki Vav, Patan
Rani ki Vav is one of those rare UNESCO World Heritage
Site that was built by a queen in memory of her king! Sort
of like Taj Mahal, in reverse and one of the best places to
visit in Gujarat. It is an ancient step-well, from the early
11th century, which was constructed by Udayamati in
memory of Bhimdev I. With stairs that can take you down
seven levels, it is home to more than 1,500 sculptures.

Gir
The only natural habitat of the Asiatic Lions, Gir
National Park is the best place to come face to face with
them. Truly one of the best places to visit in Gujarat,
Gir is also home to a variety of other rare wild animals,
such as hyenas, fish owls, black bucks and many
more. Spread across nearly 1412 sq km of land, this is
also the only national park in India that has a
community living inside its perimeters
Rajkot
Also known as the City of Princes, Rajkot was formed in
1620 by Jadejas and was under their rule till 1947. If

about India’s past and learning from a liver firsthand
experience, this former capital of Saurashtra is the place

Porbandar
Developed as a major trading hub in the recent times,

Dandi Beach
here is a beach that holds great significance in the history
of India. Remember Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March
where he broke the Salt tax law imposed by the British
government. That March culminated right at this beach.
Mahatma Gandhi made salt at this beach as a part of his
non-violent protest. Even today the beach front is
decorated with a couple of monuments honouring
Mahatma Gandhi.

Chorwad
Chorwad is a sleepy little fishing village situated
near Somnath. There is an interesting story associated
with this beach. It is believed that Mohabat Khan, the
Nawab of Junagarh, on one of his tours through the
kingdom landed at this hamlet. He was soon impressed
by the beauty and weather of this Arabian Sea beach.
He decided to build a summer retreat at Chorwad to
beat the heat of Junagadh. The Junagadh Palace,
situated on the shores of Arabian Sea was built in
1930s and is one of the prime attractions of a tour to
Chorwad Beach.

Rath Yatra
Rath Yatra is one of the most awaited festivals in Gujarat and
other parts of India, and it takes place majorly in four places
including Jagannath in Ahmedabad (Gujarat). This sacred
annual celebration’s main highlight is the procession that is
led by an ornate chariot.

The procession begins prior the Pahind Vidhi (cleaning the


route for chariot), performed by the CM of Gujarat. The
chariot and procession then make their way through different
corners of the city.

Janmashtami
Another one of most-awaited festivals celebrated in
Gujarat, Lord Krishna’s birthday is celebrated with
unmatchable zeal and devotion in Dwarka, Gujarat. People
celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight, placing an idol
in the cradle and worshipping him. A thread tied with the
cradle is gently pulled to make it swing.

To think that Gujarati food is enjoyed worldwide is a testament to the fact how Gujarati cuisine
has hit the right notes with people all around the world. It’s only fitting that a culture which
prides itself on being welcoming, eccentric, and full of life have at least a hint of sweetener in
everything they consume.
Khandvi
Soft, mushy, light and delightful. Khandvi is one of the
most likable Gujarati breakfast recipes a person can have.
Khandvi gives an irresistible sweet and salty taste with a
batter that consists of gram flour, salt, and sugar.
Another name given to it in Marathi is ‘Suralichya vadya’
as it is adorned by Gujaratis and Maharashtrians alike.

Dhokla
A spongy dish made of fermented rice and chickpeas,
Dhokla is best consumed with Green Chutney (made of
coriander or mint) or Meethi Chutney (made of Dates
and Tamarind). Another delicious sweet and salty
Gujarati cuisine, Dhokla is often consumed after frying
it with mustard, cumin seeds, and curry leaves to add a
rich aroma to the dish.
Handvo
Handvo is a sweet and savory cake that gives depth of
flavors and creativity to Gujarati cuisine. The vegetable
cake is made with a filling of bottle gourd, crushed
peanuts, and sometimes an assortment of other
vegetables added according to taste.

The cake is considered slightly similar to Dhokla in terms


of texture, but where it differentiates is in taste. For the
preparation of Handvo, Gujaratis use a different type of
pressure cooker to make the dish after applying a tadka
of oil, cumin seeds, mustard, and curry leaves.

Undhiyu
Gujarati dishes originating from Surat have a unique
flavor, preparation, and taste to it. Undhiyu is mix
vegetable dish that is cooked upside down underground
in clay pots. A seasonal dish that awaits the arrival of
Uttarayan (the Kite Festival in Gujarat) in the winter
month of January.

The dish derives its name from the Gujarati word


‘Undhu’ which translates into ‘upside down’. The
ingredients of Undhiyu include eggplant, fried chickpea
flour dumplings, bananas and beans potatoes, green
peas, slow-cooked to perfection with buttermilk,
coconut, and spices.
Dal Dhokli
One of the signature Gujarati vegetarian recipes, Dal
Dhokli is a dish made after boiling wheat flour noodles in
pigeon pea stew. It is believed that this dish was brought
to the Gujarat region by the Marwari settlers who came to
establish their business ties with the outside world. This
dish is comfortable for eating anytime during the day.

Rotlo
A staple food in the state of Gujarat, Rotlo is a flatbread
made of bajra, jowar or nachni flour that is fast
spreading to restaurants and hotels in other parts of
India as well. In the most traditional sense, Rotlo is
consumed with raw white onion, green chilies, and
buttermilk. This is a Gujarati food is primarily
consumed by local people in the winter season.
Sev Tamatar Nu Shaak
A stormy confluence of flavors of can be felt in every bite
of the Sev Tamatar Nu Shaak, one of the very few Gujarati
dishes that bring a sweet, salty, tangy, and spicy flavor in
one go. After sauteing diced onions and tomatoes in oil
and spices, the dish is cooked and sev is added on top of it
to get the spicy and salty flavor to the dish.

Traditionally enjoyed with flat-breads like Theplas, rotis,


or paranthas, Sev Tamatar Nu Shaak is a popular dish for
children in Gujarati households.

Gujarati Kadhi
One of the most recognizable Gujarati dishes made from
buttermilk or yogurt and gram flour. An essential part of
Gujarati food, Kadhi prepared in Gujarat is lighter than
its variants prepared in north India. The lighter gravy is
obtained by adding a few cups of water to the curd and
gram flour mixture. In Gujarat, people like to consume
Kadhi piping hot with Khichdi, roti, or rice.
Shrikhand
Shrikhand is a type of sweet dish which is served chilled
in the desert. It is made up of yoghurt and sugar. The
yoghurt is mixed with sugar and kept for the mixing. It is
also available in different flavours but the most famous
flavour of Shrikahnd is aam. In that the pulp of mango is
poured and freezes in the refrigerator.

DoodhPak
DoodhPak is a sweet dish made up of milk. The dish
contains boiled rice, Cesar and the dry fruits in it. The
dish is somewhat like Shahi kheer. The milk is boiled to
the extent that it becomes half. It is served hot with the
garnishing of dry fruits.
