Starting and growing an event management business can be rewarding endeavor that has a lot of

opportunity to work within different industries. It requires planning, organizing concepts and creating

ideas which I have acquire these basic skills as I undergo the on-the-job trainings such as table skirting,

table napkin folding, table set-up, balloon decorating and sometimes be flexible also in the changes that

the client wants to change on that day. A successful event management business takes time and effort

and offer an exceptional event and providing excellent customer service will be key to your long-term

industry.

a. How do you understand the event management concept?

Event management is a multifaceted concept that involves planning, organizing and executing

various types of events, ranging from small gatherings to large-scale conferences and festivals. It

encompasses a wide range of tasks and responsibilities to ensure that an event runs smoothly and

successfully.

b. What are the skills you need to become an event management team member?

To become an effective member of an event management team, you’ll need a combination skills and

qualities such as organizational skills, communication skills, creativity, calm under pressure and also

able to deal with various types of guests.

c. In your perspective, how can an event become successful?

The success of an event is to plan, organize, create an activities and entertainment that resonates with

your audience. Ensure that the program is engaging and relevant to the event’s objectives.
d. What are the characteristics of an event? Explain each briefly.

The characteristics of an event are:

1. It is one-of-a-kind experience- for the participants, an event should be meaningful, enjoyable

and unforgettable as they consider it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

2. It is distinct – it should be unique.

3. Its concept is perishable – the concept of an event cannot be duplicated to another event.

4. It is generally pricey to stage – an event is generally expensive to be held that requires capital

to make everything available for the event.

5. It brings people together – it has ability to unite and connect individuals. It fosters a sense of

cooperation and shared experience among those who are involved.

6. It requires careful attention in planning – it emphasizes the importance of thorough and

thoughtful preparation to achieve a successful event, avoid potential pitfalls and minimize risks.

7. It is labor-intensive – it relies heavily on manual labor and human effort to accomplish the

given task of an event manager, to produce and provide services. It may involve a higher degree

of workforce management and cost considerations.

8. It has purpose – people organize events because they have purpose or goal which is to celebrate

and make the event extra special and fun.

Events can be categorized as follows:

1. Family events – it refers to gatherings or occasion where the members of the family come

together to celebrate, commemorate or simply spend time with each other.

2. Festivals – typically refer to special and often recuring events or celebrations that are marked by

a series of activities, traditions and customs. These events are usually held to commemorate or

honor specific religious, cultural or seasonal significance. Festivals can vary greatly in their

nature, purpose and scale.


3. Entertainment – refers to activities, performances or experience that are designed to amuse,

entertain or provide enjoyment to people. It also serves as a means of relaxation, escape and

enjoyment for individuals. It can be a form of artistic expression, cultural preservation and a way

to bring people together.

4. Sporting Events – is a competition in which athletes or teams compete against each other in

various sports or athletic activities. Sporting events are significant aspect of sports culture and

entertainment drawing a large audience from around the world.

5. Marketing and Promotional Events – are organized activities or campaigns designed to

promote and market a product, service, brand or organization.

6. Fundraising Events – are organized activities with the primary goal of raising funds to support

a specific cause, charity, non-profit organization or even a project.

7. Business Events – this are meetings that are organized for specific business-related purposes.

These events can vary widely in scale and format ranging from small meetings and workshops to

large conferences and trade shows.

Mega Events - typically refers to a large-scale, high-profile event that attracts significant attention,

participation, and interest from a wide audience, both locally and globally. These events are often

characterized by their size, significance, and impact on various aspects of society, such as culture,

sports, politics, economics, and tourism. Example of this are festivals and economic forums.

Major Events - These events can encompass a wide range of fields and sectors, including politics,

sports, entertainment, business, science, and more. It is significant and noteworthy occurrences or

happenings that have a considerable impact, influence, or importance within a specific context.

Minor Events - these events may not attract widespread attention or have a profound influence on

society, culture, or history. Minor events can still be meaningful to individuals or specific groups but

are generally considered less important. Example are family gatherings and birthdays.

Hallmark Events – it is commemorated, celebrated, and studied because of their enduring impact

on culture, history, or society. They serve as touchstones for understanding the evolution of human

civilization and the achievements that have shaped our world. One example is celebrations of

historical events.

Answer:

The success of an event often relies on the collaboration and involvement of various individuals and

organizations. Depending on the nature and scale of the event. Here are some important persons that

are typically needed for an event to become successful.

1. Event Manager - are responsible for planning, coordinating and executing all aspects of the

event.

2. Venue Manager – managing a variety of locations and ensure the facility is suitable, safe and

equipped for the event’s needs.

3. Program Manager –is responsible for overseeing and managing a group of related projects and

initiatives within an organization.

4. Marketing Manager – is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects to raise awareness

and generate for products and services.

5. Stage Manager – is responsible for the props, sets, decorations, blocking, lights and sound in the

stage.

6. Hospitality Manager – organizing the daily operations of the facilities in the hospitality

industry.
7. Lighting, Video and Audio Companies – they are knowledgeable in speakers, presenters or

music of the performer. They provide to entertain, attract and engage the attendees.

8. Event Host and entertainers – they ensure that everything runs smoothly on the event and

entertain the participants or attendees.

9. Ticketing Operations – it relating to the sales of the tickets were being sold for a particular

event.

10. Suppliers – provide goods and services necessary for the event such as catering, audiovisual

equipment, decorations and promotional materials.

The success of an event often depends on effective communication and collaboration among these stakeholders.

I. Brief Summary

Wedding ceremonies in many societies traditionally involve a gathering of family and friends. In Japan

these wedding ceremonies are often extravagant, costing millions of yen and have guest lists ranging from 50 to

200 attendees. With a focus on Japanese couples choosing Guam as their wedding destination. The reasons

behind this trend, including cost savings and the combination of wedding and honeymoon plans. It also

describes the advantages of the Pacific Islands Club (PIC) in Guam, which was the first hotel to have its own

wedding chapel and provided unique experience for couples and guest.

The challenges faced by PIC’s original wedding chapel, which was built in an old-fashioned style and

lacked the scenic view that couples were seeking. To stay competitive, PIC had to build a new chapel that met

couples’ preferences. The role of wedding coordination companies like World Bridal and Watabe Wedding

Corporation in facilitating overseas weddings in Guam. It notes that despite economic challenges, the
destination wedding industry in Guam is still showing growth potential with some couples willing to spend a

significant amount on their weddings.

The changing trends in the wedding industry in Japan are highlighted with a shift towards more couple-

oriented ceremonies and customized wedding packages. The study mentions emerging trends in other

destinations such as glass-walled seaside chapels and nighttime weddings by candlelight. The study briefly

touches on demographic challenges in Japan, such as a declining birthrate, which may impact the wedding

industry in the future.

into weddings such as traditional rituals, cuisines and attire.

 Marketing Potential. Collaborations with Japanese travel agencies and wedding planners can help tap

into a lucrative market.

WEAKNESSES

 Cost of the weddings

 Competition increased competition within the destination wedding industry in Guam can affect market

share and pricing strategies.

 Changing of Trends. The industry faces challenges adapting to change wedding trends such as couple’s

preferences for brighter and more scenic venues.

 Innovation are key factors for success in this dynamic industry.


 Niche market. Targeting niche markets such as couples who prefer private and affordable wedding can

diversify the client base.

Abstract:

This study determined the cultural and economic benefits of conducting festivals on the cities and

municipalities of Batangas Province, Philippines. Descriptive type of research was utilized in the study. The
respondents are the 250 local residents based in ten cities and municipalities forming the top 10 Batangas

Festivals. Results showed that the community respondents strongly agreed that festival helps in the preservation

of local culture and traditions. For those who belong in the high and average class, they have a more positive

response compared to those in the lower class. Festivals can help recreate the image of the town to get on the

tourism map where it helps the tourism industry of the specific area like Batangas by extending the tourism

season. Every development happens in the province gives them the opportunity for life improvement. Festivals

provide identity to the people that nourish the Filipino culture and strengthen the economic benefits through

hard work and perseverance of the Batanguenos to be known their festivals worldwide.

Introduction:

Tourism is a major industry that contributes to socio-economic progress through job creation, export revenues,

and infrastructure development. With an increasing number of tourism destinations worldwide, it has become a

key driver for international commerce and a major source of income for many developing countries. Despite

challenges, international tourist arrivals have shown continuous growth, with international tourist arrivals

reaching 278 million in 1980, 528 million in 1995, and 1087 million in 2013.

Festivals add tourism attraction and influence the cultural and economic growth of the place where they are

held. Festivals provide local populations with an opportunity to exchange information and experience, share

culture, and help tourists see how locals celebrate their holidays and follow traditions and customs. Batangas, a

prime province in the region, was chosen as one of the priority destinations during its Visit Philippines 2015

program.

Batangas is known for its Ala Eh! Festival, the biggest, grandest, and most colorful event in the province, and

other municipality/city festivals. The Provincial Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office identified top 10 Batangas

festivals annually, including Balsa Festival of Lian, Sinuam Festival or Egg Festival of San Jose, Punlad

Festival of Talisay, Kabakahan Festival of Padre Garcia, El Pasubat of Taal, Mahaguyog of Sto. Tomas,
Calacatchara Festival of Calaca, Sublian Festival of Batangas City, Anihan Festival of Lobo, and Parada ng

Lechon of Balayan.

Festivals are considered "products" that should be well-recognized and properly promoted to attract local and

international tourists. They are believed to bring pride to Filipino migrants as they invite foreign tourists to pay

a visit and experience the local festivals being celebrated in their locality. Celebrations like these become an

integral part of the international cultural and social scene.

Body

The Department of Tourism Secretary, Ramon Jimenez, emphasizes the significance of tourism as a major

industry that contributes to economic growth. Tourism is seen as a means to create jobs, generate export

revenues, and develop infrastructure. The importance of tourism and festivals in Batangas, emphasizing their

role in economic growth and cultural exchange.

In the table 1 which is the respondent’s profile the study collected data from members of the community who

personally experienced local festivals. Participants were categorized by their level of involvement, income

class, and religion. The majority of respondents (55.80%) participated in festivals as part of the audience, while

26% were event participants, 15.10% were business owners, and 3.10% were exhibitors. In terms of income

class, 72.10% of respondents fell into the average income category, 17.40% had low income, and 10.50% had

high income. Regarding religion, 78.30% of respondents were Roman Catholic, 17.10% were Born Again

Christians, 4.30% were Iglesia Ni Cristo members, and 0.40% were Muslim.

The cultural benefits of Batangas Festival shown in table 2 the respondents strongly agreed that festivals in

Batangas helped preserve local traditions and culture (3.67), promoted local culture (3.64), and created better

cultural understanding and promoted peace and unity (3.62). Festivals also attracted visitors interested in

history, arts, and culture (3.58). However, creating cultural fusion (blending of values, attitudes, and beliefs)

received a slightly lower score (3.46). Overall, the composite mean for cultural benefits was 3.56, indicating

strong agreement among respondents.


Economic Benefits of Batangas Festival indicated that the festivals were believed to uplift the tourism industry

in Batangas Province (3.56). They also increased investment opportunities for the city/municipality (3.56) and

attracted tourists to experience local culture, traditions, and quality service (3.54). Other benefits included

generating income for local businesses and establishments (3.40) and providing additional revenue to the local

government through taxes (3.38). However, improving the standard of living for local people (3.19) and

increasing employment opportunities (3.23) received lower scores. The composite mean for economic benefits

was 3.44, indicating general agreement among respondents.

Difference in Responses in table 4 and 5 was being unveiled when grouped according to individual

participation, income class, and religion, only income class showed a significant difference in responses for

both cultural and economic benefits. Higher-income individuals tended to have more positive views about the

benefits of festivals compared to lower-income individuals. Individual participation and religion did not

significantly affect respondents' perceptions of benefits.

The study proposes the development of a tourism strategic plan to highlight the positive impact of festivals on

the local government and the community. The plan aims to increase support for festivals, emphasizing their

cultural and economic benefits.

Overall, the study suggests that festivals in Batangas Province have significant cultural and economic benefits,

especially in terms of promoting local culture, attracting tourists, and creating investment opportunities.

However, there are differences in perception based on income class, with higher-income individuals having

more positive views about these benefits.
