This document will detail the steps necessary for final assembly of the Vertical Fin.

1.1 Locate the two holes in the leading and trailing edges of the Vertical Fin. The leading edge hole is 15” down from the horizontal surface
and the trailing edge hole is 12” down from the horizontal surface.
1.2 Using a hot knife cut away the fabric covering and clean up the bolt hole.

2.1 Locate the leading edge hole that is 15” down from the horizontal surface.
2.2 Install the (2) Cable(s), Upper Forward Tail to the Vertical Fin: Install Bolt AN3-14A (#N314A) through tang on Cable, Upper Forward Tail (#5510-
018), Vertical Fin Leading Edge (#5530-020), Cable, Upper Forward Tail (#5510-018) and Nut AN3 (#N3LN) and tighten.

Note: Torque Value on the AN3 bolts in this section should be between 20 inch lbs and 25 inch lbs of torque.

3.1 Locate the trailing edge hole that is 12” down from the horizontal surface.
3.2 Install the (2) Cable(s), Upper Aft Tail LSX to the Vertical Fin: Install Bolt AN3-14A (#N314A) through tang in Cable, Upper Aft Tail LSX (#5510-
043), Vertical Fin Trailing Edge (#5530-010), Cable, Upper Aft Tail LSX (#5510-043) and Nut AN3 (#N3LN) and tighten.

Note: Torque Value on the AN3 bolts in this section should be between 20 inch lbs and 25 inch lbs of torque.

4.1 Locate the 1/4” hole in the Vertical Fin Trailing Edge (#5530-010) that is 7” up from the top of the Boom Tube surface.
4.2 Slide the Upper Tail Post Supports (#3220-017) into position so the holes in the end of the Upper Tail Post Supports line up with the hole in the
Vertical Fin Trailing Edge.
4.3 Install bolt AN4-17A (#N417A) with a Washer AN4 (#N4W) through Channel Bracket, 1-1/4” x 1” (#5330-001), Upper Tail Post Support
(#3220-017), Vertical Fin Trailing Edge (#5530-010), Upper Tail Post Support (#3220-017), Channel Bracket, 1-1/4” x 1” (#5330-001),
Washer AN4 (#N4W) and Thin Nut AN4 (#N4TN) and tighten.

Note: Torque Value on the AN4 bolts in this section should be between 50 inch lbs and 70 inch lbs of torque

5.1 Locate the 1/4” hole in the top side of the Boom Tube: Measure from the aft end of the Boom Tube forward 46”, just forward of the
Vertical Fin Leading Edge (#5530-020). Note that on the underside of the Boom Tube, a Nutplate was previously installed at this position.
Drill a pilot hole through the Boom Tube Covers and the Turtle Deck at the mark to verify the existing 1/4” hole in the Boom Tube. Once
the location is verified use a 1/4” drill bit and drill through to the existing 1/4” hole.
5.2 Install Bolt AN4-55A (#N455A) through (2) Cable, Tail/Wing (#5320-010), through Boom Tube (#5310-012) into Nutplate 1/4-28 (#NP1/4-28), and
tighten.

6.1 Locate the 1/4” hole in the Vertical Fin Base Tube (#5530-030) that is 6-1/2” aft of the Vertical Fin Leading Edge (#5530-020). Use a hot
knife and cut out the covering material and clean up the hole.
6.2 Set the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass (#5530-021) into position over the Vertical Fin. Push the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass
back tight onto the Vertical Fin Leading Edge, allowing a 1/8” to 1/4” space over the Boom Tube Side Covers and the Turtle Deck, running
level spacing all the way under the entire bottom edge of the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass.
6.3 Locate the 1/4” hole on the Vertical Fin Base Tube and transfer the hole onto the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass. Drill 1/4” hole on
both sides of the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass.

7.1 Install the Forward Cover Mount Channel (#5530-022) by locating it on the centerline and 3-1/2” aft of the front edge of the Vertical Fin
Forward Cover, Fiberglass (#5530-021) as it sits underneath it in its final assembly.
7.2 Drill (4) evenly spaced 3/16” holes into the Forward Cover Mount Channel and into the Turtle Deck. Do not drill too deep – do not penetrate
the Boom Tube below.
7.3 Install the Forward Cover Mount Channel by using a Rivet AB6-4A (#P-64) with (2) Washer AN3 underneath, as shown in photo above.
Adding the washers is done to prevent the rivet from bottoming out against the boom tube below.

8.1 Temporarily install the Horizontal Mount Plate (#2740-017) to the Vertical Fin. Use the 1/4” hole on the Horizontal Mount Plate located
closest to the end. Line the Plate hole up with the 1/4” hole located in the Vertical Fin Base Tube (#5530-030) at 6-1/2” from the forward
end.
8.2 Install Bolt AN4-17A (#N417A) through the Horizontal Mount Plate (#2740-017), Vertical Fin Base Tube (#5530-030), Horizontal Mount Plate
(#2740-017) and then clamp together into a vertical position.
8.3 Temporarily install the Horizontal Stabilizer on one side of the Vertical Fin. Place the Horizontal Stabilizer trailing edge and insert it into
the Channel Bracket, 1-1/4” x 1” (#5330-001). Insert a Bolt AN4-20A(#N420A) to hold.
8.4 Line up the Horizontal Stabilizer leading edge center line with the center hole of the Horizontal Mount Plate (#2740-017). If the two do not
line up, rotate the Horizontal Mount Plate until the center hole lines up perfectly centered with the Horizontal Stabilizer leading edge center
line. Clamp tight into final position.
8.5 Pick a spot at the top edge of the Horizontal Mount Plate where it lines up with the center line of the Vertical Fin leading edge tube and
drill a 3/16” hole through the Horizontal Mount Plate, Vertical Fin Leading Edge (#5530-020), and Horizontal Mount Plate.
8.6 At the Horizontal Mount Plate 1/4” center hole, mark the hole on both sides of Vertical Fin. Move the Horizontal Mount Plates out of the
way and use a hot knife to burn a 3/8” hole into the Vertical Fin.

9.1 Remove the Horizontal Mount Plate(s) (#2740-017). Set the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass (#5530-021) back into position and install
the Horizontal Mount Plate(s) (#2740-017) with Bolt AN4-17A locating it properly finding the top and middle holes that were drilled in the
Vertical Fin.
9.2 Drill a 3/16” hole back through the top hole in the Horizontal Mount Plate, penetrating the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass on both
sides. Drill a 1/4” hole through the middle hole in the Horizontal Mount Plate through the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass on both sides.
9.3 At the aft bottom corner of the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass drill a 3/16” hole completely through and into the center of the Vertical Fin
Base Tube (#5530-030).
9.4 Temporarily install the Horizontal Stabilizer on one side of the Vertical Fin. Place the Horizontal Stabilizer trailing edge and insert it into
the Channel Bracket, 1-1/4” x 1” (#5330-001). Insert a Bolt AN4-20A (#N420A) to hold.
9.5 Mark the top of the Horizontal Mount Plate that protrudes past the sweep of the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass. Remove the
Horizontal Mount Plate and cut off the angled edge that was marked and file smooth.

10.1 Install the Spacer Sleeve, Front Mount Plate (#2740-021) into the 3/8” hole in the Vertical Fin fabric. Do not allow the Spacer to fall into
the Vertical Fin. Set the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass back into position and install the Horizontal Mount Plate with Bolt AN4-17A in
the center hole: Install Bolt AN4-17A (#N417A) through Washer AN4 (#N4W), Channel Bracket 1-1/4 x 1” (#5330-001), Horizontal Mount Plate
(#2740-017), Vertical Fin Forward Cover (#5530-021), Vertical Fin with the Spacer Sleeve, Front Mount Plate (#2740-021), Vertical Fin Forward
Cover (#5530-021), Horizontal Mount Plate (#2740-017), Channel Bracket 1-1/4 x 1” (#5330-001), Washer AN4 (#N4W) and Thin Nut AN4
(#N4TN) and tighten.
10.2 Install the lower bolt in Horizontal Mount Plate: Install Bolt AN4-17A (#N417A) with Washer AN4 (#N4W), Horizontal Mount Plate (#2740-
017), Vertical Fin Forward Cover (#5530-021), Vertical Fin, Vertical Fin Forward Cover (#5530-021), Horizontal Mount Plate (#2740-017),
Washer AN4 (#N4W) and Nut AN4 (#N4LN) and tighten.
10.3 Install the upper bolt in Horizontal Mount Plate: Install Bolt AN3-16A (#N316A) through Washer AN3 (#N3W), Horizontal Mount Plate
(#2740-017), Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass (#5530-021), Vertical Fin, Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass (#5530-021), Horizontal
Mount Plate (#2740-017), Washer AN3 (#N3W) and Nut AN3 (#N3LN) and tighten.
10.4 In lower aft corner of Vertical Fin Forward Cover, install Bolt AN3-14A (#N314A) through Washer AN3 (#N3W), Vertical Fin Forward Cover
(#5530-021), Vertical Fin, Vertical Fin Forward Cover (#5330-021), Washer AN3 (#N3W) and Nut AN3 (#N3LN) and tighten.

11.1 With the Vertical Fin Forward Cover, Fiberglass (#5530-021) sitting over the Forward Cover Mount Channel (#5530-022) secure with Bolt
AN3-14A: Drill a 3/16” hole at 11-1/2” back from the tip of the Vertical Fin Forward Cover and 1/2” up from the bottom edge, through both
sides of Cover and through Forward Cover Mount Channel.
11.2 Install Bolt AN3-14A through a Washer AN3 (#N3W), Vertical Fin Forward Cover (#5530-021), Forward Cover Mount Channel (#5530-022),
Vertical Fin Forward Cover (#5530-021), Washer AN3 (#N3W) and Nut AN3 (#N3LN) and tighten.

12.1 Install the hinges on the Vertical Fin Trailing Edge (#5530-010). Locate the two mounting holes on the trailing edge tube, one at 4-1/4” up
from the bottom, and one at 6” down from the top. Use a hot knife to open up the holes and remove the fabric covering.
12.2 Install Hinge (#5520-010) at the top and bottom of the Vertical Fin: Install Bolt AN4-14A (#N414A) through Hinge (#5520-010) and tighten
into the Nutplate, 1/4-28 installed on the Vertical Fin Trailing Edge (#5530-010).
