FIRST GRADE NEWSLETTER

Happy New Year and our best wishes for a great 2020! Now that we have returned to class after
a long break, it is time for us to get to work and apply ourselves. The next few months are key
for a successful school year. Thank you for a great first semester!

Student Holiday –Jan 20th ***

Language Arts

We will continue to work diligently on Reading skills to help students become better
independent readers. These skills include identification of the main idea, retelling and details.
We will also study a unit on Biographies. Please remember to read with your child daily for 20-30
minutes and encourage them to add details as they write.

Science

Work on the Scientific Process and Science Projects.

Math

This month students will study a unit on comparing and ordering whole numbers.

Social Studies

Compare the lives and activities of historical figures.
