INTRODUCTION

A. The Rationale
A banana is an edible fruit – botanically a berry – produced by several kinds of large
herbaceous flowering plants in the genus Musa. In some countries, bananas used for cooking
may be called "plantains", distinguishing them from dessert bananas. The fruit is variable in size,
color and firmness but is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh which is rich in starch
covered with a rind, which maybe green, yellow, red. Purple or brown when ripe. The fruits
grow in clusters hanging from the top of the plant. Almost all modern edible seedless
(parthenocarpy) bananas came from two wild species Musa Acuminata and Musa Balbisiana.
Musa species are native to tropical Indomalaya and Australia, and are likely to have been
first domesticated in Papua New Guinea. They are grown in 135 countries, primarily for their
fruit, and to a lesser extent to make fiber, banana wine, and banana beer and as ornamental
plants. The world’s largest producers of bananas in 2017 were in India and China, which
together accounted for approximately 38% of total production.

B. The Statement of the Problem

1. Would banana peels make a good fertilizer for growing monggo?
2. Is banana peel has a significant effect as fertilizer?

C. The Statement of the Hypothesis

 There is no significant effect of banana peel as good fertilizer for growing monggo.
 There is no significant effect of banana peel as fertilizer.

D. The Significance of the Study

Bananas are rich in a mineral called potassium. This mineral is important as it helps to
maintain fluid levels in the body and regulates the movement of nutrients and waste products in
and out of cells. Potassium also helps muscles to contract and nerve cells to respond.
The findings of the study would be useful to determine if banana peel is effective as
fertilizer.

E. The Scope and Delimitation

The focus of our study is the effect of the lakatan or banana peeling as a fertilizer to the
growth of monggo. They will buy and buy the banana from market. They will make the lakatan
peeling fertilizer by cutting banana peel into pieces and mix it with soil.
