Additional Key Adjustments from Solver Ranges

Here are a few specific pieces of advice for making intelligent adjustments from the Solver ranges,
beyond what is covered in the other sections of the course.

In spots where the population defends wider versus 3-bets than Solver, we should construct a more
linear 3-bet range, and more or less eliminate polarized bluffs. This is further supported by the fact
that the population typically does not 4-bet enough. In the larger sizing scheme solves you may see
some Kx and Ax suited combos emerging in the 3-bet range, but most likely these hands become
poor 3-betting candidates if the population defends stubbornly with hands such as KT-KQs, KQo, and
hands such as AJ-AQo.

When looking at the solver-optimal small blind opening ranges, we see what I would suggest are
very tight ranges compared to what is possible against the population, including most regs. The
reality is that we can generate so much EV from postflop hotspots that oftentimes we can justify an
open on that basis alone, irrespective of the preflop defence ranges of the villain. On top of this, we
can see that all populations miss the solver-recommended big blind 3-bet range, which makes it
easier to open wider. Only against the strongest regs would I recommend taking an approach
anything close to the solver ranges in this formation.

Comparing this to openraising the button, where players are familiar with expanding their opening
range, I would argue that this is actually a less attractive spot to expand your range significantly. This
is because of the combined 3-bet frequencies of small blind and big blind constraining your opening
potential to a greater degree than the big blind’s 3-bet frequency in the blind versus blind scenario.
