During the early period thousand years ago,
the early Filipinos were composed of different
groups that came from different part of Asia.
With different groups they form their own
community, system of education and religious
belief.

beliefs and cultural
mores anchored in
the idea that the
world is inhabited
by spirits
■Respect be
accorded to
them through
nature worship
■they believed
that their daily
lives has a
connection of
such beliefs.
VERSES FOR RITUALS (CHANTS)
• ritual chants consisting of verses recited by a
babaylan on any occasion like planting, harvesting,
or healing the sick.
• used in witchcraft or enchantments.

• “tabi-tabi po, Ingkong. Makikiraan
lang po.”
Riddle (Bugtong)

■ A riddle is a statement or question or phrase


having a double or veiled meaning, put forth
as a puzzle to be solved

■To preserve the culture.

Proverb (Salawikain)
■ echo the values of the Philippines.
■ Though they have been retold and passed down
from one generation to another, and the values
and lessons they impart to us still hold true to this
day.
Sawikain (Idioms)

■ a phrase or a fixed expression that has a


figurative, or sometimes literal, meaning. An
idiom's figurative meaning is different from the
literal meaning.
Saying (Kasabihan)

■A saying is any concisely written


or spoken expression that is
especially memorable because of
its meaning or style.
LEGEND
• talks about the origin of things, traditional accepted a
historical but not verifiable.
• features supernatural characters and events, and
often teaches life lessons.

Myths

■ a traditional story, especially one concerning


the early history of a people or explaining
some natural or social phenomenon, and
typically involving supernatural beings or
events.
Lullabies
■ Locally known as “hele”.
→These are sung to
put babies to sleep. The
content varies but usually
parents sing these with
ideas on how hard life is
and how they hope that
their child will not
experience the hardships of
life.

■Courtship song
and used by
young men to
capture the
heart of the girl
that they love.
