She settled with her parents in Baldwin, New York at 4 years old.
While growing up she listened to artists like Shakira or The Beatles
on the radio.
she decided to pursue music during her early school days
She attended ‘Plaza Elementary School’ where she was given singing
lessons by her music teacher Mr. Nadien and began writing poetry in
her kindergaten years.
She also loved photography and painting
She was known to be a very emotional girl. Her classmates used to
call her a “cry baby” as she often cried when overwhelmed.
She later attended ‘Baldwin High School’ and grew more passionate
about music after entering her teens. She taught herself to play the
guitar and won the ‘Baldwin Singing Competiiton’ in high school.

In 2012, she participated in ‘MSG Varsity Talent Show’
She later auditioned for the third season of ‘The Voice’ with Britney Spear’s ‘Toxic’
She was eliminated in the sixth week of the ‘Live Shows’.
She immediately began working on original material and spent all of 2013, writing
lyrics for her songs.
In February 2014, she self-released her debut single titled ‘Dollhouse’
After its gigantic success ‘Atlantic Records’ quickly signed her
In early 2015, Melanie Martinez announced that her debut album would soon be
hitting music stores and on the 1st of June 2015, she released her debut album’s
first single ‘Pity Party’ which was ranked gold by RIAA followed by its second single
‘Soap’ on July 10, 2015.
‘Cry Baby’ reached stores on 14th August 2015. It went on to rank number 6 on the
‘US Billbaord Album 200’ music chart.
Her debut album was certified Platinum on February 24, 2017, by RIAA (Recording
Industry Association of America).
2017: She won Female Artist of the Year (Alternative or Indie)
In September 2019, Melanie Martinez released her second studio album, K-12. In
September 2020, she released her EP titled After School.
