Translation of Catan

The objective of this translation is to help out people that want to play the Catan game, but have a table where various
are spoken, or that will use the Catan game sometimes with speakers of one of the languages below, and sometimes with
another.

Personally, I’m not a native speaker of German, English or Spanish. But I use these languages daily, and a greater part of
my friends is familiar with the latter two. In order not to exclude any of my friends, I decided to change my original Catan
game, and create bilingual cards and parts, so we can play with whoever wants to and everyone will be able to
understand the cards and the game.

I share my translation with all of you, so that you can overcome language barriers between different settlers and enjoy the
game. It must be seen as a reference, and I support creativity of usage, whether it’s as a document on the side, or you
decide to make your own Catan cards as well. Although I think it’s very important to underline that this document isn’t
meant to copy all of the game, if you haven’t purchased the original Catan game first: I don’t support piracy and
infringement of copyrights.

The last thing I want to add, is the procedure followed in order to create the translation:
• First, the text of all German cards and English cards was taken from the original game instructions that I found on the
internet. For both of them it was possible to find all texts for all cards.
• In continuation, the greater part of the Spanish cards were sought and added in the tables in this document. There
was some difficulty here, because not all can be found on the internet. For those that were still left open, a translation
was made.
• Finally, all cards were revised and checked on tone and consistency of translation where the original German served
as the basis.
• After having completed these steps, the Spanish cards were checked by native speakers of Spanish that is spoken in
Spain.
• Once all that was done, I printed the cards, and finally started playing.
