SECTION 15860

EXHAUST AND VENTILATING FANS

PART 1 GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

1.1.1 Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including the General
Conditions, Conditions of Particular Application and Division-1 Specification
Sections, apply to work of this Section.

1.2 SCOPE

1.2.1 Furnish and install exhaust and ventilating fans as required by the Contract and as
specified herein.

1.2.2 Extent of exhaust and ventilating fans is indicated on Drawings.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

1.3.1 Product Data: Provide fans manufacturer's performance data such as printed
data, catalog, Certified for fan performance curves , static and dynamic balancing
test , sound-power ratings , Motor ratings .

1.3.2 Shop Drawings: Provide certified drawings showing overall dimensions, weight,
fan horsepower, size, type, details and installation requirements.

1.3.3 Maintenance Data: For power ventilators to include in maintenance manuals


specified in Division 1.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

1.4.1 Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined
in NFPA 70, Article 100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having
jurisdiction, and marked for intended use.

1.4.2 AMCA Compliance: Fans shall be tested and rated in accordance with AMCA
standards and provide AMCA Certified Ratings Seal. Or ISO 5801:2007 for
aerodynamic performance and BS 848 Part 2:1985 for sound performance.

1.4.3 NEMA Compliance: Motors and electrical accessories shall comply with NEMA
standards or IEC standard.

1.4.4 UL Standard: Power ventilators shall comply with UL 705 or equivalent BS .

1.4.5 Single Source Responsibility: Obtain all fan types and accessories from a single
source ( manufacturer ) , in case of its not available from single manufacturer ,

obtain other types from another approved manufacturer taking into
consideration that all types shall be from single source ( Agent / suppler ) .

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL

2.1.1 Fans shall be of the types and capacities as indicated on Drawings.

2.1.2 Each fan shall provide with vibration isolators as per manufacturer
recommendation.

2.1.3 Each fan shall be given a bonding coat before painting. All parts shall be spray
painted with two (2) coats of gray primer finisher before and after assembly.
Exterior surface shall have enamel finish.

2.1.4 The sound level produced by the fans when installed in the served spaces shall be
no greater than the following:

2.1.5 Cleanable Filters: The cleanable filters shall be made of expanded aluminium foil
filter panels, panels are constructed from multiple layers from expanded
aluminium foil mesh. The layers must be arranged at a right angle one to the
other which shall allow the air to change its direction several times achieving
maximum impingement with low resistance to air flow. Construction shall be in
statiform layers that shall not allow compression or collapse for the filter under
air flow or dust load. Each layer of expanded aluminium mesh must have
jointless continuity and cannot shed any loose fibbers or strands. Filter shall be
50 mm thick with 73% efficiency with ASHRAE Dust Test, and shall have 85%
efficiency with ASHRAE mean Gravimetric Efficiency of Separation, and it must
have a minimum dust holding capacity of 1550 g/m. Clean filter shall not have
more than 5 mm wg pressure drop when air is passing over the filter with a
velocity of 2 m/s. Filter must be fire resistant and must be tested for fire spread
test BS 476-Part 7-1971, and must achieve at least Class 1. Each bank of filters
must have a U-Tube Manometer connected to each side of the filter to determine
the pressure drop.

2.2 IN-LINE CENTRIFUGAL FANS

2.2.1 Description: In-line, direct centrifugal fans consisting of housing, wheel, outlet
guide vanes, fan shaft, bearings, motor and disconnect switch, drive assembly,
mounting brackets, and accessories.

2.2.2 Housing: Split, spun aluminum with aluminum straightening vanes, inlet and
outlet flanges, and support bracket adaptable to floor, side wall, or ceiling
mounting.

2.2.3 Direct-Driven Units: Motor mounted in airstream, factory wired to disconnect


switch located on outside of fan housing; with wheel, inlet cone, and motor on
swing-out service door.

2.2.4 Fan Wheels: Aluminum, airfoil blades welded to aluminum hub.

2.2.5 Accessories:

- Fan Guards: 13- by 25-mm mesh of galvanized steel in removable frame.


Provide guard for inlet or outlet for units not connected to ductwork.
2.2.6 Capacities and Characteristics: As per contract documents and design
requirements.

2.2.7 Vibration Isolators: Elastomeric hangers having a static deflection of 25 mm.

2.3 PROPELLER FANS

2.3.1 Description: Direct- propeller fans consisting of fan blades, hub, housing, orifice
ring, motor, drive assembly, and accessories.

2.3.2 Housing: Galvanized-steel sheet with flanged edges and integral orifice ring with
baked-enamel finish coat applied after assembly.

2.3.3 Steel Fan Wheels: Formed-steel blades riveted to heavy-gage steel spider bolted
to cast-iron hub.

2.3.4 Fan Wheel: Replaceable, cast-aluminum, airfoil blades fastened to cast-


aluminum hub; factory set pitch angle of blades.

2.3.5 Direct-Driven Drive Assembly: Resiliently mounted to the housing, statically and
dynamically balanced and selected for continuous operation at the maximum
rated fan speed and motor horsepower (HP).

- Service Factor Based on Fan Motor: 1.5.


- Fan Shaft: Turned, ground, and polished steel keyed to wheel hub.
- Shaft bearings: Permanently lubricated, permanently sealed, self-aligning ball
bearings.

· Ball-bearing Rated Life: AFBMA 9, L-10 of 100,000 hours.


2.3.6 Accessories:

- Gravity Shutters: Aluminum blades in aluminum frame; interlocked blades


with nylon bearings.

- Motor-Side Back Guard: Galvanized steel, complying with OSHA specifications,
removable for maintenance.
- Wall Sleeve: Galvanized steel to match fan and accessory size.
- Weathershield Hood: Galvanized steel to match fan and accessory size.
- Weathershield Front Guard: Galvanized steel with expanded metal screen.
- Disconnect Switch: Nonfusible type, with thermal-overload protection
mounted inside fan housing, factory wired through an internal aluminum
conduit.
2.3.7 Capacities and Characteristics: As per contract document and design
requirements.

2.3.8 Vibration Isolators: Restrained spring isolators having a static deflection of 25


mm.

2.4 MOTORS

2.4.1 Comply with NEMA designation, temperature rating, service factor, enclosure
type, and efficiency requirements:

- Motor Size: Minimum size as indicated. If not indicated, large enough so


driven load will not require motor to operate in service factor above 1.0.
- Controllers, Electrical Devices and Wiring: Comply with requirements for
electrical devices and connections specified in Division 26 Sections.

2.4.2 Enclosure Type: Totally enclosed, fan cooled.

2.5 JET FANS

The Inner fans casing consist of a circular fan tube with oval flanges an oval
silencer is mounted on each flange , fans shall be Tested and certified in
accordance with EN 12101-3.

The outer fan casing is made of an oval sheet to make up a whole with the
silencer .a wire guard is mounted on the inlet side and deflector is mounted in
the outlet side .the deflector deflect the air in the desired direction.

The fans shall be delivered with suspension brackets for direct mounting to ceiling
or in to wall.

The Motors are single – speed 3x400 V 50 HZ for direct start.

Min .IP55 in accordance with IEC 34-5, Class E.

An electric Isolation switch in integrated in the fan casing.

The impeller consists of a hub discs with cavities in which four blades are
mounted in preset positions.

The oval silencer are placed on both sides of the fan casing .the silencer are fitted
with inlet and outlet cones designed for minimum pressure lose.

Blades : aluminum alloy

Hub shell : steel sheet

Fan tube : rolled steel tube in 3mm sheet

Outside sheet for fan housing and silencer : 0.75 mm sheet in alu-zinc

In side tube for silencer :perforated pre-galvanized sheet steel

Sound attenuating material : fire–proof and moisture resistance

Cones : galvanized steel

Wire guard : Stainless steel

Deflector : galvanized steel and aluminum.

Suspension brackets : hot galvanized 3mm steel sheet

The jet fans meet the requirements for operation in unheated .low corrosive
environments according to DS/EN ISO 12944-2 corrosion category C3

The operating temperature range is as standard –20 to +50 ºC

Balancing of the rotor unit is in accordance with VDI 2060 .ISO 1940,1-1986 Class
Q603.

2.6 SMOKE FANS

Smoke fans should be rated smoke, centrifugal inline (except otherwise


mentioned), belt driven, motor out of air stream, belts and bearing should be
protected, should be rated for TWO hours at minimum smoke temperature of
300°C or as specified in the equipment tables of the project

2.7 CENTRIFUGAL TYPE FANS

Centrifugal type fans shall be single width, single inlet and have arrangements as
indicated on Drawings. Fans shall be factory-assembled and tested consisting of
housing, wheel, fan shaft, bearings, and side support structure.

Housings shall be galvanized steel with lock seam construction for sizes 600 mm
to 1000 mm, spot welded construction for sizes 1100 mm to 1500 mm and
continuous weld construction horizontal splits, bolted together for sizes 1650 mm
and larger, beaded discharge reinforcement. Housings shall be of the adjustable
type with continuous spun inlet cones with duct connections collars. Any unit
exposed to weather shall be complete with weatherproof enclosure for motor
and drive.

Wheels blades shall be backward inclined plate-type for sizes 560 mm and
smaller, non-power overloading backward inclined airo-foil blades for sizes 600
mm and larger blades made of die cut and die formed shall be welded to steel
wheel rim and hub plate, wheels to be keyed to shafts. Shafts shall be
constructed of ANSI C 1040 or 1045 solid hot- rolled steel, turned and polished.

Bearings shall be heavy-duty, grease-lubricated, precision anti-friction ball or


roller, self-aligning, pillow block type bearings selected for minimum average life
(AFBMA L 50) of 100,000 hours. Fan bearings and drive are to be enclosed and
isolated from air stream.

Drive shall be V-belt drive, selected for 1.4 service factor with adjustable pitch
sheaves, selected for midpoint at design conditions.

Fan shall be capable to operate satisfactorily with 45oC outside air temperature.
Fans used for smoke shall be IP55 and Class E insulation.

2.8 AXIAL FANS

Provide factory-fabricated and tested fan units consisting of fan blades, hub,
housing, orifice ring, motor and drive.

Fan shall have heavy gauge galvanized steel construction housing with flanged
edge and integral orifice ring. The fan blades shall be of airofoil welded
galvanized steel construction with spun steel spider bolted to cast-iron hub. All
fan parts shall be protected against corrosion. Fan and motor bearings shall be
sealed and of self-lubricating type.

Fan shall be direct driven with totally enclosed single speed motor having flange-
type bearings, and standard NEMA frame size. See the Section entitled "Electric
Motors and Controllers" for motor specifications.

Fan shall be capable of operating satisfactory with 45oC out- side air temperature
and 100% relative humidity.

Each fan shall have gravity shutter blades in the discharge side (if no external
louvers installed) and galvanized steel wire guard in the motor side.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

3.1.1 Install fans in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and with recognized
industry practices to ensure that fans comply with requirements and serve
intended purposes.

3.1.2 Provide enough access and service space around and over fans as recommended
by manufacturer.

3.1.3 Provide 100 mm high concrete pad under floor-mounted fans.

3.1.4 Set fans on vibration isolators; fasten in accordance with manufacturer's
installation instructions.

3.1.5 Provide flexible connections on inlet duct connections.

3.2 TESTS

3.2.1 Start-up, test, and adjust fans in presence of manufacturer's authorized


representative.

3.2.2 All fans shall be earthed.
