a. For constant volume systems, the fan shall be
connected directly to the exhaust duct
without the need of bypass plenum and bypass
damper.
5. Curb:
7
a. Exhaust system manufacturer shall supply a
structural support curb for the factory
packaged fan and stack assembly of specified
height as shown on the drawings. Curb shall
be fabricated of a minimum of 12-gage
corrosion resistant coated steel,
structurally reinforced and insulated. When
properly anchored to the roof structure, the
standard factory packaged fan and stack
assembly shall withstand wind loads of up to
125 mph without additional structural
support.

C. Dampers: Per the 2020 NYCECC and ASHRAE 90.1-2016 as
modified by Appendix CA of the 2020 NYCECC, systems
shall be equipped with Class 1 motorized dampers (with
a maximum leakage rate of 4 cfm/SF at 1.0” w.c. when
tested in accordance with AMCA 500D) that will
automatically shut when the systems or spaces served
are not in use. Gravity (non-motorized) exhaust and
relief dampers are acceptable in buildings less than
three stories in height. Gravity (non-motorized)
dampers are acceptable in systems with a design
exhaust capacity of 300 cfm or less. Gravity dampers
shall have a maximum leakage rate of 20 cfm/SF at 1.0”
w.c. when tested in accordance with AMCA 500D. Gravity
dampers smaller than 24 inches in either dimension
shall be permitted to have a leakage of 40 cfm/SF at
1.0” w.c. when tested in accordance with AMCA 500D.
Provide fans with the damper types as shown on the
Drawings.

A. Roof exhaust shall be upblast propeller type exhauster.
Propellers shall be belt-driven, precision balanced
and shall utilize the circular arc airfoil blade
design and shall be constructed of all welded heavy
gage steel. A baked-on acrylic epoxy shall be the
finish inside and outside. Motors shall be heavy-duty
type with shielded ball bearings and designed for
continuous duty workload. Wheel shall be statically
and dynamically balanced. The entire drive assembly
and wheel, as a unit, shall be removable through the
support structure without dismantling the fan housing.
Heavy gage base housing shall have deep drawn
streamlined orifice. Special steel structural frame
under the base of exhauster extends out over the roof
curb to carry the weight of the motor fan and drive
7 assembly. Fans shall be AMCA approved for sound and
air performance.

B. Roof Curbs: The prefabricated roof curb will enclose
the opening of the roof exhaust fan, and be furnished
with flashing and with wood sill at the top. The
curbs shall be mounted directly to the roof structural
surface, then roofed and flashed to the top of the
wood nailer for weather tightness. The exhaust fan
shall fit properly over the sill and shall be secured
to it with stainless steel lag screws. The joint
between the fan base and the sill shall be made air
tight by means of heavy roofing felt counter flashing
material. Minimum height from the bottom of the fan
to the finished floor shall be 12".

1. Edit as required.
11. Delete article if smoke control systems are not used on the
project. Components of smoke control fans shall be rated and
certified by the manufacturer for the probable temperature
rise to which the components will be exposed. This
temperature rise shall be computed by the designer in
accordance with Section MC 513.10. Edit the Section by
defining the probable temperature rise and insert into
Article 2.01. Verify that when the submittals are received,
the components are suitable for the probable exposure
temperature. Fans shall be selected for stable performance
based on normal temperature and, where applicable, elevated
temperature. Calculations and manufacturer's fan curves
shall be part of the documentation procedures.
14. Provide an H-O-A switch for the kiln exhaust fan. In the
“A” mode, the kiln exhaust fan must be interlocked with the
unit providing air to the Arts Room. The kiln exhaust fan
is used to exhaust code ventilation air and therefore must
always be on and in the “A” mode. The “H” mode would be
used for the case should the interlocked supply unit fail,
one could manually turn on the kiln exhaust fan should the
kiln be in active use. Designer shall not to locate the H-
O-A switch next to the kiln in order to avoid improper
turning off of the exhaust fan by staff.
