CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENTS ? ? ?

 Special instruments, machineries, and plants are used for

carrying out specific activities in a building, structure, or
in a project are called Construction Equipments.

SELECTION OF CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENTS

 Availability of machinery or equipment.

 Size of the equipment in the project.

 Availability of operating staff and spare parts.

 It should be versatile (Serves more than one operation).

 Reputation of the manufacturer.

CONSTRUCTION MEASUREMENT UNITS

1. Volumetric Measurements ( m3 ) (m x m x m = Cubic. Metre)

Example: Earthwork, Concrete, Brickwork..etc.

2. Area measurements ( m2 ) (m x m = Square. Metre)

Example: Levelling, Plastering, Painting..etc.

3. Linear measurements (Rmt) (m = Running. Metre)

Example: Electrical and water supply Lines..etc..

4. Item measurements (Nos)

Example: Doors, Windows and Fixtures..etc.

ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS

 Economic considerations of Construction Equipments are mainly

depends on selection and hiring or purchasing of equipments.

 Construction equipments selection mainly depends on the unit

rate of activity and its production.

 Construction equipments hiring and purchasing mainly depends

on quantity of the activity and its future requirement.

 Hiring charges should not increase 20 to 30% of the project cost,

if it cross the range better to purchase the equipment for
production.

EARTHWORK EQUIPMENTS ? ? ?

 The equipments or machineries are used to carrying out the

earthwork activity are called as Earth work Equipments.

 Earth work is a technique of cut and move the soil with help of
some instruments and machineries from one place to the
another place to form a desired shape or a purpose.

 For earth cutting, we generally use JCB’s and Excavators or

Diggers.

 For earth moving, (it is also known as Hauling) we generally

using Loaders, Dozers, Trucks and Dumpers.
