AMBULANCE DRONE

INTRODUCTION:-
In today’s world, there is a lot of traffic on roads which leads to congestion in the whole city.
So in the time of emergency crisis situation, an ambulance which travels via road may not be
able to reach the destination in time and the patient might lose his or her life. Thus, it is
necessary to introduce a distinct means that would take the objective of saving human life one
step closer. The drone comprises of a medbox which is capable of reaching emergency
situations faster than the ambulance and can measure patient’s real time health parameters.
The various sensors in this prototype comprises of heartbeat sensor, temperature sensor, and
ECG sensor. An ECG Sensor with disposable electrodes is attached directly to the chest to
detect every heart beat.

PROPOSED SYSTEM:-
The prototype proposed in this PDF is a Drone Ambulance which is equipped with a med box
comprising of sensors such as temperature sensor, ECG sensor and heartbeat sensor which
reaches the emergency spot earlier than the ambulance and not only measures the real time
health parameters, but also transmits them to the ambulance. The doctor present in the
ambulance can analyze the real-time health parameters such as the condition of the heart,
provided by the ECG sensor data. When a Quadcopter or drone flies, a group of different forces
and torques act on it. Drag, lift, weight, thrust are the four main forces acting on the Quadcopter.
The Quadcopter will be able to fly only if the all these forces acting on it are balanced . I am using
the Zigbee technology to transmit the data (ZigBee technology is much cheaper than WIFI
systems). I got this idea when I saw the news that ambulances are being stuck in the Traffic. I
felt very sad by looking at the condition of patients in the ambulance, I thought ambulance drones
might help.

QUADCOPTER PROTOTYPE:-
The use of drones in healthcare is the purpose of the proposed prototype. For this reason, the
first step is to develop a quadcopter. Both the thrust and the torque are produced by every
quadcopter and it is produced about it’s COR. In addition to this, a drag force is also produced
in the opposite direction to its flight. I have used programming skills of Arduino to control the
heart rate sensor, ECG sensor , temperature sensor and I am using the APM 2.8 Flight
controller,4 x 30A BRUSHLESS MOTOR, ESC’s, 6 channel transmitters + receiver,2200 MAH 11.1v
lithium ion battery for building the basic structure of my Drone. The type of motors I am using
produce more than required torque and speed which will reach to patients as fast as possible.
FUTURE PLAN(IMPLEMENTED):-
Much further advancements can be done. The drone can be made autonomous. The GPS
module can be used to acquire the location of the target and machine learning can be used to
help the drone to calculate shortest path to reach the destination. A camera can be
implemented in the drone so that the current situation can be viewed by the doctor in the
ambulance. A much more advanced drone can be developed for carrying out this specific
operation. Usage of drones in the medical industry is a developing field which has a
tremendous scope for further research. Using of heavy duty batteries will increase the flight
time which with the help of GPS will reach more distance. We can also allow patient’s relatives
or friends to track the location of the drone which will help them to make arrangements.
 In Some Countries, Researchers have tested Drones for supply of Medicinal Kits for those
who are suffering from cardiac arrest.
 In most of the cases, patients live far away from the hospital and to seek immediate help,
Drones could be a faster way to help them.
 The drone which I made has Autopilot and GPS built in and is painted using fluorescent
colors similar to ambulance to help people locate it.
 The trials are being tested in some countries (some rural areas also), and the drone was
able to deliver the medicines in just 5 minutes whereas ambulance reaches in 20 minutes.
 According to sources, more than 3lakh cardiac arrests take place in India every year but
only 10% survive.
 If we are able to decrease the time period of cardiac arrest from the time of collapse and by
supplying electric current to the chest as fast as possible it can restore the rhythm of the
heart.
 In future, we can develop, bigger sized ambulance drones, it can carry one or two people in
it and reach the hospital as fast as possible faster than ambulance.
 By using the ambulance drone we can also deliver food and other utilities to the place where
natural disaster has taken place especially islands like Andaman & Nicobar
This project will help India to develop in fields of Science and Technology
