Intelligence quotient (IQ) gets you hired but emotional quotient (EQ) gets you promoted”. This
popular quote by Times magazine during late nineties has made the concept of emotional
intelligence more popular among people by highlighting its multiple implications and
applications. Today’s fast pace and high rate of change requires different skills for survival and
success. Higher stress levels require better handling abilities. Mentoring relationships are
particularly essential in times like these. Expertise in a particular field plays a lesser role, while
internal qualities like resilience, initiative, optimism, and adaptability are taking on new value.
This course will expose students to approaches and processes that can help in effectively leading
and managing others in organizations. The emphasis will be on creating effective leaders and
team members though a better understanding of various aspects of emotional intelligence. The
objective of this course is to acquaint the students with the principles of emotional intelligence,
help them to assess their own abilities, and guide them to heightened awareness of ways to grow
in these abilities.
