INTENT

• To understand wind and their movement on earth.

• To relate the wind movements with architecture.

• To incorporate the wind behavior in our design to make

more efficient buildings.

WIND

• Wind is the flow of gases on a

large scale. On the surface of the

Earth, wind consists of the bulk

movement of air. In outer space,

solar wind is the movement of

gases or charged particles from

the Sun through space,

WIND MOVEMENT

Wind is caused by differences in the atmospheric pressure. When

a difference in atmospheric pressure exists, air moves from the
higher to the lower pressure area, resulting in winds of various
speeds.
CORRIOLIS EFFECT

An effect whereby a mass

moving in a rotating system
experiences a force (the
Coriolis force ) acting
perpendicular to the
direction of motion and to
the axis of rotation. On the
earth, the effect tends to
deflect moving objects to the
right in the northern
hemisphere and to the left in
the southern and is
important in the formation
of cyclonic weather systems.
