Uniqueness and distinction

 Rinconada is rich in words having a short or unstressed letter /i/ sound.

However, not all words with /i/ should be read and pronounced as such since there
are several words that have stressed /ī/, especially loanwords, e.g. sīli (chili).

 The language retains the proto-Philippine schwa vowel /ə/ that have
disappeared in most Philippine languages like Cebuano, Tagalog and even the
neighboring Coastal Bikol language.

 The occurrence of an extra consonant phoneme /ɣ/. This consonant bears

the sound of mixed letters "h, y and "w".

Religion:
 Roman Catholicism is the most
predominant religion in the province of
Camarines Sur by having 93% of the
population. Other religions professed
by the people include the Iglesia
Filipina Independiente, Iglesia Ni Cristo,
Baptist, and other smaller Christian
groups.

Beliefs:
 Beliefs on god, the soul and life after death are strongly held by the people.
Related to these, there are annual rituals like the pabasa, tanggal, fiestas and flores
de mayo. Side by side with these are held beliefs on spiritual beings as the tawo sa
lipod, dwende, onglo, tambaluslos, kalag, katambay, aswang and mangkukulam.

Arts:
 Norbing Vallez (Bato)
Born 1976 at Bato Camarines Sur, Filipino artist “Nobing Villez” is a Fine Art
undergraduate at Far Eastern University who joined the group “Sikat” (Sining Kulay at

reaching out to our very own Filipino artists and inspiring them to act and change
their life in a positive way.
