It is stated that the management of workforce diversity cannot be underscored with current
changes which are sweeping across the globe. It has been the versatile tool to achieve the
comparative advantage. It has also an important role in mobilizing the free market system.
Organizations that have developed experience and reputation for managing diversity will likely
have attracted the best personal outcomes. Managing workforce diversity is one of the most
difficultly of the modern organization. Organizations have to predict this intriguing nature of
the diverse workforce. It has helped and worked as a defender for an organization. Companies
who have adopted the work force diversity can easily argue on any kind of discrimination. In
the business one must has more diverse workforce in order to be more effectively understood.
It creates potential benefits of the diversity including better decision making. Moreover, the
interaction process between the employees of the first line can help enhancing the
performance of an organization. Diverse workforce can provide superior services because they
better understand the customer’s need and want, having the minorities can help the
organization to tab the recession market. Diversity issues can gain more importance because in
a service economy, effective interactions between the people are essential to business success.
Diverse teams make it possible to enhance flexibility, rapid response & adaptation of change.
Companies can succeed at diversity if the initiative to create, manage & value the diverse
workforce has the full support of the top management. For the better performance, the
organization should assign the work to senior manager and should create the working
environment. Performance should be clearly and objectively established & strategy must based
upon the will of human resources strength and culture of the organization. Moreover, training
and development programs will improve the skills in dealing with day to day diversity
dilemmas. The drawbacks can also interrupt the performance such as many people feel
threatened b working with the people of the different age, gender & culture. Another
disadvantage of diversity in the workplace is an increase in conflict & increase in labor turnover
and absenteeism are another disadvantage in having a diverse workplace. It is a duty of the
management to critically evaluate the benefits of the workforce diversity in the organization.
On the other hand, the management should put in place conditions which would enhance the
workforce diversity in their organization. In today’s environment, a successful organization is
one where diversity is the norm and not the exception.
