Denver Canvassing Project 2019

In the summer months of 2019, a handful of young people migrated to Denver, Colorado

to spread the gospel by knocking on doors. We reached out to approximately 15,000 homes. The

beginning of this project took place in a dainty chapel filled with kids, teenagers, and adults

clumped in groups, repeating things like, “Hi! I am working on a special project and instead of—

and I messed up again. What does the paper say?” The room hummed. Laughs diffused the

anxiousness in the air as everyone rehearsed the canvass. Many people think canvassing is an

expired form of missionary work. However, canvassing is one of the best methods of missionary

work because it successfully cultivates the spirituality of the canvassers, brings the truth into

direct contact with individuals, and trains young people to be some of the most valuable

members of society.

One of the things I learned during this project was that the souls we would have the

greatest access to were not the people at the doors, but our very own canvassers. Most of the

time, majority of the young people who attend these events do not have a personal relationship

with God. But trying to share the gospel from door to door brought the canvassers in contact with

the supernatural. It required them to cooperate with God for success and that cooperation

happened by interacting with Him in a intimate way. Miracles started happening. During the

project, the youth showed signs of taking steps towards Jesus.

Not only were our canvassers getting to know God, but complete strangers were too. I

remember me and my partner approaching a rackety screen door when man in gray sweat pants

stepped out. His skin was printed with tattoos and a heavy, black band sat around his ankle. He
was on house arrest. I thought to myself, well. . .this guy will not be buying any spiritual books.

The man respectfully listened to me speak. The Holy Spirit moved me to show him Desire of

Ages, even though I assumed he would close the door as soon as he saw the cover of Jesus. He

stayed put, nodding at my words. At the end when I asked, “Which one are you most interested

in?” He lifted the Desire of Ages in his hands, “I really want this one.” My heart almost popped

out. He said, “I really like these two. The Plants that Heal and The Desire of Ages. I’ve been on

my own spiritual journey.” Did he just say he is on a spiritual journey? Me and my partner

smiled from one ear to the other. The screen door creaked as he turned, “Let me go inside and see

what money I have.” When he returned he did not have enough for both books, but I urged him

to keep the books, that they would be covered for. Before we left him we prayed together, and he

marked off that he was interested in Bible studies, cooking classes, and prophecy seminars. Jesus

said in john 4:35, “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say

unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” Truly,

there are fields of people in the world who will accept the truth when they are exposed to it.

There is so much more that can be shared, but I want to park here. This project was not a

success because of people, not because the leaders were special, but because of God. When He

orders that things should be done, they are accomplished. I am overjoyed with the way God

fulfilled His promises during Denver project 2019, and yet, He could do more in the future.

Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we

ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. . .” Through an 8 year old to a 28 year

old, and everyone else in between, God worked. Now what about you? What are you planning to
do with your life? God wants more from you than five minutes in the morning. He wants to give

Himself fully to you but asks that you also give yourself fully to Him. Will you say yes to Him?
