LITURGY OF THE WORD:

FIRST READING (TOBIT 8:5-7, 15-17)

READER: A reading from the book of Tobit.

READER: So she got up, and they began to pray and implore
that they might be kept safe. Tobias began by
saying “Blessed are you, O Lord of our ancestors,
and blessed is your name in all generations forever.
Let the heaven and the whole creation bless you
forever. You made Adam, and for him you made his
wife Eve as a helper and support, from the two of
them the human race has sprung. You said “It is not
good that the man should be alone: let us make a
helper for him to like himself”

I am now taking this kinswoman of mine, not

because of lust, but with sincerely. Grant that she
and I may find mercy and that we may grow old
together.

So they blessed the God of heaven, and Raguel said,

blessed are you, O Lord God with every pure
blessing: let all your chosen ones bless you. Let
them bless you forever.
4
Blessed are you because you have me glad. It has
not turned out as I expected, but you have dealt
with us according to your great mercy.

Blessed are you because you had compassion on

two only children. Be merciful to them, O Master,
and keep them safe; bring their lives to fulfillment
in happiness and mercy.

READER: The Word of the Lord

ALL: Thanks be to God

Responsorial Psalm (Psalm 128:1-2,3,4-5)

READER: Let us response be.

Happy are those who fear the Lord.

ALL: Happy are those who fear the Lord.

Reader: Happy are you who fear the Lord, who walk in his
ways! For who shall eat the fruit of your hard work;
happy shall you be, and favor.

Response.

ALL: Happy are those who fear the Lord.

Reader: Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine, in the recesses

of your home. Your children like olive plants around
your table.
Response.

ALL: Happy are those who fear the Lord.

5
Reader: Behold, thus is the man blessed who fears the Lord.
The Lord bless you from Zion; may you see the
prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

Response.

ALL: Happy are those who fear the Lord.

Second Reading (1 Corinthians 6:13-15, 17-20)

Reader: A reading from the first book of Corinthians.

BROTHER AND SISTERS:

Strive eagerly for the greatest spiritual gifts. But I shall show you a
still more excellent way. If I speak in human and angelic tongues
but do not have love, I am resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.
And if have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries all
knowledge: if I have all faith so as to move mountains, but do not
have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand
my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain
nothing. Love is always patient and kind it is never jealous love is
never boastful or conceited, it is never rude or selfish it does not
take offence and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other
people’s sins but delights in the truth it is always ready to excuse to
trust hope and to endure whatever comes. Love does not come to
an end.

READER: The word of God.

ALL: Thanks be to God

COMMENTATOR: Please stand to honor the Gospel

GOSPEL (MATTHEW 19:3-6)

PRIEST: The Lord be with you.

ALL: And with your Spirit.

PRIEST: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to

Matthew

ALL: Glory to you, O Lord.

PRIEST: Some Pharisees approached Jesus and tested him,

saying “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for
any cause whatever?” Jesus said reply, “Have you
not read that from the beginning the Creator made
them male and female, and said, for this reason a
man shall leave his father and mother and be joined
his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So
they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore,
what God has joined together, no human being
must separate.
