Theory of Knowledge questions:

1. Should average male workers be paid more than women? Justify your answer. (10)

Answer:

In my opinion, no, as much as male workers have the right to earn a reasonable amount
of money for working, so does female. They both have the same gender equality, thus
male and female should benefit from the same rights and opportunities. Female workers
are known to receive only 77 percent of the wages men receives. It’s another different
story when it comes to women of colour and a single mother, the difference is even bigger
and these inequality remains even after the deliverance of the Equal Pay Act in 1963, the
Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, and some other legislation prohibiting employment
discrimination. We need to build a society who is ethical, fair and can engage with people
properly. The four moderate principles rules are, efficiency, just desert, equal opportunity
and sufficiency and these principles cannot help define someone’s wealth and to create
an outcome that is seen needs a lot of trade-offs across many dimensions. For me
personally, I think that a person needs to be paid accordingly to their job, it is impossible
to pay a manager $50 an hour and a cleaning service $60 per hour although what I
disagree the most is how they pay women and men worker working at the same
department with the same job with different amount of salary. Women are working equally
as hard as men and sometimes they also work extra hours, but why some people think
that they don’t deserve the same salary? Women are often discriminated as weak being
and the result to that is people, specifically men, male, look down on them, they doubt
them. But, do you know that if you do that to a woman, treating them unequally, you
never know what she’s going through, what if she needs the money so badly, or she’s a
single mom who needs to pay her child’s fees, she may be a daughter to someone, a wife
to someone, and a mother to someone. The discrimination will only make her situation
worse and I don’t know how someone has the heart to do this to a female because I have
met a lot of female raising her own child, and some with lots of burdens and debts on
their shoulder while some mean just took advantage of their high wages to go clubbing
and drunk. Furthermore not only I disagree with the payment inequality for women, I also
highly disagree with companies who pay women larger than men even if they have the
same job, not only women should not be treated that way but so does men. I am a
feminist, I support female and male equality and if I should, if I was given the opportunity
to I will fight and stand with them and that is my own ethics, my own moral principles. Not
only this inequality must be wiped out but all discrimination has to cease to exist. We are
all the same, we all feel emotions, we are all made up of cells and we can feel pain and
we are all people. People are people and we need to make the earth a better place for out
future generations and to do that we need to make a difference. We need to stand
together instead of tearing each other down, hurting each other, treating genders
unequally and misusing our human rights. We never know what someone is going
through, so all we can do is be kind.
