A. Men and Women in the
Workforce
Gender equality is considered a critical element in achieving Decent
Work for All Women and Men, in order to effect social and institutional
change that leads to sustainable development with equity and growth.

Gender work equality refers to equal rights, responsibilities and


opportunities that all persons should enjoy, regardless of whether one is
born male or female. (Wittenberg-Cox, 2015).
B. Gender Work Equality
Workplace gender equality is achieved when people are able to access
and enjoy the same rewards, resources and opportunities regardless
of gender.

To achieve gender equality in the workplace it requires:


The ILO has adopted an integrated approach to gender equality and decent work.

Implementing measures to help workers balance work and family responsibilities,


and providing workplace incentives for the provision of childcare and parental leave
(International Labor Organization (ILO), 1996-2019).

Historically, Wiesner-Hanks (2011) discussed that all cultures from prehistoric


times to the present have drawn distinctions between men's work and women's work.
C. Gender Gap at Work

In the workplace, men and women are often expected to perform different
tasks and occupy different role based on their sex (Kanter, 1977). In the
early twenty-first century, many corporations would operate from a
perspective that favors traditional beliefs about gender

Gender inequality is a perennial problem that across genders still faces in
the workplace. The most realistic way to minimize if not to eradicate this
problem is to increase awareness about its existence in order to dispel any
lingering gender biases which may exist.
