Discussion

Based on the experiment that had been conducted, the consolidation test is performed on the type
of soil or sample by using silty clay to determine its compressibility characteristic. The soil
sample is assumed to be representing a soil layer in the ground. A conventional consolidation test
is conducted on the time have been given to take the data and the number of load is only 1kg. For
this experiment, the data from a single load of the test only the coefficient of volume
compressibility can be estimated. The Compressibility characteristic of the soil is;

 Parameters needed to estimate the amount of consolidation settlement.

 Parameters needed to estimate the rate of consolidation settlement in the field.

The result show compressibility index can be correlated well with the liquid limit, natural void
ratio and natural water content.
