Introduction

• Stat Strip is a handheld analyzer for whole

blood glucose monitoring.

• Incorporates patented Multi-Well® system that

corrects for patient hematocrit.

• Eliminates interferences that typically affect whole-

blood glucose monitoring including-
• (Examples): Acetaminophen (Paracetamol),
Ascorbic Acid, Uric Acid, Bilirubin & Supplemental
Sugars (ie- Maltose, Galactose, Xylose).

• Provides accurate results regardless of sample’s

oxygen status.

• No calibration codes required.

Quality Control Analysis

• The Insert Test Strip screen then displays.
• Insert appropriate Test Strip (Gluc or Ket) as shown
on the screen.
• Ensure that you are using the correct strips
before proceeding. Test Strips are color-coded:
• Blue – Glucose / Green – Ketone

• Once inserted, the Apply Sample screen displays.

• Gently mix the control vial before each use; discard
the first drop onto a tissue.
• Place a drop of QC at the end of the test strip until the
solution is drawn into the test strip.
• When enough sample has been drawn into the strip, the
analysis countdown begins
(6 seconds Gluc; 10 seconds Ketone).

IMPORTANT POINTS:

• Always hold the meter level or pointed slightly

downward with the test strip when dosing.

• Proper orientation prevents control solution from

running down the strip into the meter.

• Allowing liquid to run into the meter STRIP PORT

may damage the meter!

Patient Analysis- Enter Strip Lot:

The “Enter Strip Lot” screen displays.

Scan the Barcode on the Strip vial.

(In rare cases the meter may be set to allow manual

entry of the test strip lot- see screen at lower right).

Press the Accept Soft Key to continue.

Patient Analysis: Enter Patient ID:

• The Enter Patient ID Screen displays.

• If using Bar Codes for Patient ID’s:

• Scan patient wristband: Press the SCAN soft key.
Hold the barcode parallel to and approximately
4 – 6 inches (10-15 cm) from the scanner.

• When the information appears on the top of

the screen, the barcode has been
successfully scanned.
• If only using manual Patient ID entry:
• Enter Patient’s ID- using keypad on screen.

• Once the Patient ID has been entered, the

patient information should be displayed.
• If using ADT- Patient Demographics Connection:
•Confirm Patient Information is correct on screen
to verify the correct patient has been identified.
• When done, Press the ‘Accept’ Soft Key.

Patient Analysis
• Next- The “Insert Test Strip” screen displays.

• Insert appropriate Test Strip (Gluc or Ket) as shown on screen.

• Clean the patient’s finger according to hospital protocol.

• Dry thoroughly.

• Perform a finger stick according

to hospital protocol.

• It is recommended to WIPE away the first

blood droplet and test from the
second droplet.

• The test strip must fill completely upon touching
the blood drop.

• Do not touch the strip to the blood drop a

second time. Discard the test strip and repeat the
test with a new test strip.

• Testing will not begin until enough blood has

Been added to the strip.

• Do not let blood run down into the meter.

• Do not apply sample to the top of the strip.

• Blood fills the strip from the end by capillary action.

Maintenance
Cleaning/Disinfecting The Meter
• Clean the meter according to hospital protocol. Use an
isopropyl alcohol or Sodium Hypochlorite solution sprayed onto
tissue or soft cloth, or use special cleaning disinfecting wipes .
– Clean/disinfect a meter once/24 hours unless grossly
soiled (for normal patient care).
– Clean/disinfect the meter after each patient test when
testing patients on special precautions or that are
contagious.

• Immediately follow meter cleaning with a water dampened

cloth wiped on the screen to remove all cleaning residue.

• Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth or lint-free tissue.

• Caution: Do NOT immerse the meter or hold the meter under

running water. Do not spray any liquid into the STRIP PORT
area.

• Caution: Do NOT spray the meter directly with a disinfectant

solution.
Troubleshooting
Help Aids
Analysis Error:

• The test strip was removed or lost

electrical contact with the meter
before completing the test.
• Insert a new test strip and repeat the test.
Troubleshooting
Help Aids
Analysis & Flow Errors (Causes):

• Insufficient Sample
• Sample was applied incorrectly
to the test strip.
• Meter/strip was pulled away from patient blood
droplet too quickly.
• Meter/strip was not allowed to be in contact
with blood droplet properly.

• SOLUTION: Repeat testing using a NEW Test

Strip. If error occur multiple times, test patient using
an alternate method (for confirmation).
Troubleshooting
Transfer Failed Messages-
• The yellow triangle is an indicator that the
meter transfer was incomplete.

• The meter can still be used when these types

of communication errors appear on the screen.

• The meter should always be re-docked

when it is not in use.
Troubleshooting
Battery Low

• Replace the battery.

• Or, place the meter into the Docking Station.
