Methods

The design and procedure for the Camera Based Fire and Smoke

Detection is discussed and explained in this chapter.

Research Design

The functionality of the study will be conducted using a descriptive

research design.

Research Instrument

The result of the smoke and fire detection will be conducted using a

table for trial and testing. The trial tables will be used as an instrument for the

study that will serve as a basis for evaluation.

Sampling Procedures

A purposive sampling method will be used in this study. In this method,

the proponent will conduct trial and test in different places, considering the

placement of the camera in various angles and positions, for gathering data.

Data Gathering Procedures

The collected data will be the test results of Camera Based Fire and

Smoke Detection. The process will determine the smoke in every place that

the proponent conducted. The functionality of the system will be observed

based on its ability to detect smoke. These are the factors to be considered by

the proponent in determining how fast and functional the system in detecting

fire and smoke. A frequency table will be made for the summation of the

gathered data.

Testing and Evaluation

To test the functionality of the program, and response time (in

milliseconds) upon fire and smoke detection the system will be tested via

different videos, each sampled videos are stated in different environment. The

results of the video will be compared. A table will represent the data gathered

for testing of the system.

If No fire and smoke detected as Fire and Smoke.

YES Identify fire and smoke correctly.

NO Identify fire and smoke incorrectly.

Statistical Analysis

The study will use descriptive statistics in which the proponent will be

using percentage and frequency count as a basis for this evaluation.

Development of the Device

The program that will be using in this study is Visual Basic, C++

language wherein it will collaborate with OpenCV. The functionality of the

system will be tested based on the sampled videos that will be conducted by

the proponent.

System Analysis

Figure 2. shows the system flow of the device, the process will be using

a live feed. Storing up a buffer for the image to compare and to check for

movements. Then the image will subtract from the previous ones to detect the

movement wherein the image processing is done to reduce noise for clearer

results. The process includes the OPENCV, and SVM wherein the program

will identify and pinpoint the smoke and fire in the image after that the

notification or alarm will appear.
