Adjectives turned into adverbs (Adjective + ly)

(Adj + subst) (adv+vb)

Beautiful dog. He writes beautifully.

 Gentle - gently
 Automatic - automatically
 Good - well

Some adjectives have the same form as the adverbs

 Hard
 Fast
 Straight
 Still
 Early
 Worse/worst
 Better/best

Some other adjectives ending in ly cannot form adverbs only


adverbial phrases

 Silly - in a silly way


 Friendly - in a friendly way
 Cowardly - in a cowardly way

Some adverbs can have two forms with or without ly with a


difference in meaning

 Hard greu make a lot of effort He works hard.


 Hardly de-abia almost none He hardly had any money left.

 Free gratis without paying The icecream is free.


 Freely liber without restrictions You can go in Europe freely.

 High inalt/sus distanta a long way up The balloon is high in the sky.
 Highly inalt/bun opinie have a good opinion They think highly about you.

 Clear sta departe de keep away Stand clear of drugs.


 Clearly clar so we can understand Speak clearly.
 Late tarziu It’s late, we should go home.
 Lately recent recently I haven’t seen you lately.
