Re: Letter of Recommendation for Nick St. Charles
To Whom it May Concern,
Tam delighted to submit this letter of recommendation for Nick St. Charles. I have watched (and listened)
as he quickly developed into a seasoned and thoughtful reporter.
Nick stood out immediately as his work ethic and commitment to making a difference through journalism
‘was well developed; he dedicated more time at KPFA than any other intern in his class. One of his first
assignments at KPFA involved canvassing neighborhoods on Treasure Island to interview residents
displaced due to environmental contamination. With little experience and despite many hurdles, including
road closures and residents” reluctance to talk to the media, Nick managed to tack down interviewees and
gather the audio to piece together a well written-story by deadline,
More recently, we have selected Nick to serve as a paid vacation relief reporter for our capital
correspondent. Those assignments required hustling and quick thinking. Nick dealt with interview
cancellations, chaotic street protests, last minute assignment changes and navigated the state's legislative
process with the disposition of a seasoned journalist. Assignment after assignment, Nick has kept his cool
under pressure, juggled multiple tasks and maintained the flexibility to change directions quickly. We
have also used Nick as our trainer for new reporters.
[believe Nick has the intellectual and character resources needed to succeed in today’s demanding media
‘environment. His sense of wonder, natural curiosity and genuine interest in current affairs: locally,
nationally and internationally - having lived in Turkey for two years - will be an asset at your
organization. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
a
