Chunky Fingerless Mittens

You will need:


• 1 pair 6mm needles
• 50g Chunky yarn (70 metres)
• Sewing needle for making up

Right Hand
Cast on 29 stitches.

Shape Wrist
Row 1: P1, *(K2, P2) repeat from * to end
Row 2: *(K2, P2) repeat from * to last stitch, K1
Repeat rows 1 and 2 fourteen times, ending with
row 16.
**Shape Hand:
Row 17: K9, Inc. in next stitch, K9, Inc. in next Left Hand
stitch, K9 (31 stitches) Cast on 29 stitches.
Row 18 (and all WS rows, except row 26): Purl
Shape Base of Thumb: Shape Wrist
Row 19: K14, Inc., K1, Inc., K to end (33 Row 1: *(P2, K2) repeat from * to last stitch, P1

Making Up

With the WS facing, sew up the thumb loosely,

then sew up the side seam, using mattress
Shape Thumb: stitch.
Work on 11 stitches as follows:
K11, turn Abbreviations
P11, turn Inc. – Increase in next stitch as follows: Knit
K11, turn stitch but do not remove it from the left hand
P11, turn needle, insert right hand needle into same stitch
Cast off these 11 stitches loosely knitwise purlwise, then slip off to right hand needle
Complete Hand: K – Knit
With the WS facing, rejoin yarn at base of P – Purl
thumb, and P to end. For the rest of the hand RS – Right side
you will be working right across all 28 stitches on WS – Wrong side
each row.
Row 27: Knit
Row 28: Purl
Repeat rows 27 and 28 eight times, ending with
row 36.
Cast off loosely knitwise.
