Introduction

1 Introduction

Please follow this manual exactly when performing repairs and keep to all the scheduled
repair steps.
We would be grateful to receive any corrections to this manual and also any tips for
performing repairs more efficiently than described here.
Please contact our Service Department in Saalfeld.

1.1 Notes for Service Personnel

This repair manual is intended for trained service and maintenance personnel.
Refer to the user manual for information about operating the device.
Please contact our Service Department if a problem occurs which cannot be remedied
with the assistance of this repair manual.

Repairs may only be performed by trained personnel.


We offer training for this purpose.
This service manual also serves as training documentation.

Repairs which are not covered by this service manual may only be performed after
consultation with TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH or be performed by
TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH in Saalfeld.

After all repairs or settings, a functional test or test must be performed in accordance with
the instructions in this service manual.
The device may only be handed over to the customer after being tested and in a fully
functional condition.
The handover must be made in writing and must be confirmed by the
customer. The device must be demonstrated to the customer at the handover.

Introduction

1.3 General Safety Instructions

Please observe the following instructions:


· Only perform those repairs and settings for which you have been trained and which are
described in the Service Manual.
Please contact us if you have any doubts.
· Only use original spare parts provided by TRUMPF Medizin Systeme GmbH as spare
parts.
· Keep the areas around the device clean and tidy during and after maintenance.
· Do not perform any actions which could put people in danger or could make the
device a source of danger.
· Store dismounted casings and other parts of the device which have been removed in a
safe place while working.
· Always place tools and dismounted parts in a place where no one can trip over or slip
on them.
· Your clothing must be so arranged that it cannot get caught in the device. Button up
the sleeves of your shirt or jacket or roll them up. Long hair must be tied together or
put up.
Tuck the ends of scarves, ties and shawls into your clothing or fasten them securely.
Loose items of clothing can be dangerous!
· Wear protective goggles for the following activities:
– Hammering pins or similar parts in or out
– Removing springs under tension and safety devices
– Working with an electric drill
– Using spring hooks or inserting springs
– Soldering
– When using solvents, cleansers or other chemicals
– In general, when the working conditions present a possible risk to the eyes.
· After work has been completed, replace or renew all safety devices, such as:
– Covers
– Bonding and potential connections
– Earthing connections.
Potential equalisation/earth connections must be tested after assembly.
· Replace all defective parts, which are not clearly in good working order, with original
spare parts, including those which go beyond the scope of the repair order.
· Unauthorised or provisional repairs are not permitted, even if the customer requests
them.

Introduction

1.4 Protection against Infection

Safety instructions for working in the operating theatre area


ATTENTION!
There is a risk of infection in the entire hospital.
Observe all safety measures.
As a service technician, also follow the requirements of the medical
facility concerning protection against infection.

· Only perform maintenance and repair work on operating tables which have been
disinfected.
· The disinfection of the interior parts of the operating table must be organised at the
proper time before the repair/maintenance work and is to be performed by the medical
facility.
· Observe all the medical facility’s hygiene requirements concerning clothing, cleaning
regulations and disinfection measures. Observe all rules on behaviour, especially in the
operating theatre area.
· Work may only be performed in the operating theatre area if the relevant authorisation
has been given.
· See a doctor immediately if symptoms of illness or disease occur!
Tell your doctor that you have worked in areas where there is risk of infection - even
months later.

Instructions for persons at risk


NOTE!
Ask a doctor about the possible risks and possible measures to avoid
them in your work as a service technician.

· After consulting a doctor, get inoculated against hepatitis B.


A booster inoculation is required every 3 to 5 years.
· The incubation period for hepatitis B is 1 to 6 months.

1.5 Instructions for Protecting the Environment

· Follow the recycling regulations for components which have been removed, particularly
in the case of:
– Metals
– Plastics.

The following service manual is valid for the operatimg tables MERKUR 2.1 and
MERKUR 3!
Differences between the two types are marked!

2.1 Changing wheels

Wheel, static:
1. Jack up the operating table.
2. Remove screw M8 from the wheel suspension.
3. Change the wheel.

Reassemble in reversed order!

Wheel, lockable:
1. Jack up the operating table.
2. Remove 2 pins from the brake lever.
3. Remove screw M8 from the wheel suspension.
4. Remove parts sideways out of the wheel suspension.

NOTE!
Setting the brakes on the MERKUR 2.1 item no. 4 544 032 and
MERKUR 3 item no. 4 544 028: The brakes can be set with a hexagon
socket head cap screw (1) on the under side of the wheel (2).

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
After setting the brakes, check that they are functioning properly.

2.2 Changing the gas spring

ATTENTION!
Injury hazard!
Pneumatic pressure springs are under pressure!
Discharge the pneumatic pressure springs before disassembly!

Trendelenburg gas spring:


1. Remove cover.
2. Remove circlip from the lower bolt.
3. Remove bolt.
4. Remove upper counter nut from the gas spring.
5. Screw out gas spring and replace it.

NOTE!
Adjustment:
Both gas springs must release simultaneously!
Adjust at the thread of the shaft. Apply counter nuts, secure screws
using glyptal!

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
Check whether both pneumatic pressure springs release
simultaneously.

2.3 Changing Trendelenburg sliding washers

Changing sliding washers:


1. Remove safety screw at the bolt.
2. Remove bolt.
3. Change sliding washers.

Reassemble in reversed order!

2.4 Changing the bushing of Trendelenburg gas spring

ATTENTION!
Injury hazard!
Pneumatic pressure springs are under pressure!
Discharge the pneumatic pressure springs before disassembly!

Changing the bushing:


1. Remove cover.
2. Remove upper counter nut from the gas spring.
3. Screw out gas spring.
4. Replace bushing.
5. Screw gas springs back in.

NOTE!
Both gas springs must release simultaneously!
Adjust at the thread of the shaft. Apply counter nuts, secure screws
using glyptal!

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
Check whether both pneumatic pressure springs release
simultaneously.

2.5 Changing control head of Trendelenburg gas springs

ATTENTION!
Injury hazard!
Pneumatic pressure springs are under pressure!
Discharge the pneumatic pressure springs before disassembly!

Changing control head:


1. Remove cover.
2. Remove upper counter nut from the gas spring.
3. Remove bowden cable.
4. Remove circlip.
5. Remove bolt.

NOTE!
Both gas springs must release simultaneously!
Adjust at the thread of the shaft. Apply counter nuts, secure screws
using glyptal!

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
Check whether both pneumatic pressure springs release
simultaneously.

2.6 Changing bowden cable - Adjustment back section

Changing bowden cable:


1. Bring back section into sitting position (70°).
2. Remove adjusting screw and counter nut at lever
(back section - left rail, at top, inside).
3. Release gas springs directly at pin.
Note: Use a medium size screw driver.
4. Remove bowden cable.

Assembling:
1. Hang new bowden cable in release lever of gas spring (big nipple).
2. Hang other end of bowden cable into hand lever.
3. Remove screw driver.

NOTE!
Adjust release point:
Under load, back section in upper position must go back springy into
initial position. In lower position it must release safely!

4. Counter set screw.

2.7 Changing gas spring in seat section

ATTENTION!
Injury hazard!
Pneumatic pressure springs are under pressure!
Discharge the pneumatic pressure springs before disassembly!

Changing gas spring:


1. Remove countersunk socket-head screw M8x40 with bushing
(attaches gas spring to back section).
2. Remove counter nut M10x1 on piston shaft of gas spring.
3. Remove gas spring.

NOTE!
Adjustment after changing:
Both gas springs must release simultaneously!
Adjust at the thread of the shaft.

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
Check whether both pneumatic pressure springs release
simultaneously.

2.8 Changing fork for seat section

ATTENTION!
Injury hazard!
Pneumatic pressure springs are under pressure!
Discharge the pneumatic pressure springs before disassembly!

Changing fork:
1. Remove countersunk socket-head screw M8x40 with bushing
(attaches gas spring to back section).
2. Remove counter nut M10x1 on piston shaft of gas spring.
3. Remove gas spring.
4. Remove bowden cable.
5. Knock 2 spring-type pins out of the shaft (on both sides).
6. Shift the shaft to one side.
7. Remove the retaining ring on the axle of the actuating lever, item no. 4 212 840,
for the pneumatic pressure spring.
8. Remove the axle.
9. Fit a new fork.

NOTE!
Adjustment after changing:
Both gas springs must release simultaneously!
Adjust at the thread of the shaft.

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
Check whether both pneumatic pressure springs release
simultaneously.

2.9 Replace the operating lever and bar in the head section

Fit a new operating lever (4) and bar (3):


1. Screw out the two hole nut (2).
2. Pull out the locking pin.
3. Replace the entire bar (3).
4. Remove the retaining ring on the operating lever (4).
5. Fit a new operating lever (4).

NOTE!
Ensure that the locking pin is correctly orientated when reassembling.
The narrow end of the conical part must point upwards when the head
section is lying on the pad.

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
Check that the head section is held securely in all positions.

2.10 Changing the adapter spindle on the MERKUR 3

Changing the adapter spindle:


1. Remove the covering of the spindle drive.
2. Knock out the pin between the adapter and the spindle.
3. Pull out the adapter.
4. Fit on a new adapter and put in a new pin.
Reassemble in reversed order!

Fit a new drive (6):


1. Bring the elevator into the maximum position.
2. Remove the bolt together with the retaining ring (4).
3. Fold the segment up, unscrew pads (1) and (2).
4. Pull out the pin (3) (retaining ring).
5. Loosen 3 screws (5).
6. Pull out the drive (6) towards the rear.

Fit a new pads (1) and (2):


1. Bring the elevator into the maximum position.
2. Remove the bolt together with the retaining ring (3).
3. Fold the segment up, unscrew pads (1) item no. 4 145 351 and (2)
item no. 4 145 350.
Reassemble in reversed order!

2.13 Change the pump lever and hydraulic lifting unit

Change the pump lever (4) and hydraulic lifting unit (2):
1. Lower the MERKUR to its lowest position.
2. Remove the tabletop.
3. Remove MERKUR-cover.
4. Remove the retaining rings (1) on both sides.
5. Remove (6) bolt.
6. Knock out the cylindrical pin (8).
7. Brake the MERKUR and lay it on its side.

NOTE!
Take care to avoid scratches. Use an underlay.

8. Pull off the pump lever (4).


9. Screw 2 x 4 countersunk screws (3) out of the hydraulic lifting unit (2).
10. Pull off the slotted holder (7).
11. Take out the hydraulic lifting unit (2).
12. Pull off the adapter bush (5) and fit a new pump.

Reassemble in reversed order!

TEST!
Test the column lift of the MERKUR.
