CRICKET ARANDALIA (JAMIE SHUTTERLAND)

 The one-match penalty imposed on Jeevan Smithson and Ron Croft by CRIC was
merely a slap on the wrist under the Code. This came as a huge relief to CA. In addition
to Coach Lieman and Smithson are absolutely crucial for the team’s prospects, while
Croft is presently the team’s opening batsman and an important part of the team. The
management is aware that winning the World Cup will represent a vindication for the
beleaguered team, and a chance to win back the support of the nation. Pursuant to
this, CA has no intention to impose any kind of sanctions on the players or the coach.

 However, if absolutely necessary, it can impose sanctions on Croft which would lead
to Croft missing the World Cup – however, this is only a last ditch measure and may
not play out well in terms of public perception, given that Croft’s role was lesser than
that of Smithson and Lieman and under no circumstances will CA sanction them in this
manner.

 But going into the World Cup, CA desperately needs an Official Team Sponsor, as it is
almost impossible to organise the tournament without financial support of a sponsor.
The reputational damage and the loss of the $2 billion would do insurmountable
damage. At the same time, you recognize that you have violated the morals clause,
and that Waker is entitled to damages anywhere between $350 million and $1 billion,
according to your experts’ valuation.

 When Casey communicated Waker’s intention to terminate the contract, CA

approached other potential sponsors. However, all of these companies refused to be
associated in any manner with the tainted Arandalian team.

 The one bargaining chip you have is you know Waker needs money soon, as their
finances for the year are not in good shape. You have $400 million you have just
received as payment by the broadcaster of the World Cup, and another $350 million
as revenue from the sale of tickets. However, the vast majority of this needs to be
used to organise the tournament. At best, you can spare $200 million at present.

 You are however open to compensating them in future, and in style. Something Waker
does not know about is that CA is planning on starting up the first truly international
T20 cricket league in Australia – no restrictions on the number of overseas players
each franchise can play in any given match. This tournament will be known as the
Biggest Bang. It will consist of 52 matches, which is twice as many as the World Cup.
This tournament is projected to kick off in 2024, and profits will be absolutely massive.
You anticipate as many viewers as the World Cup.
 You’re willing to look at giving Waker a discounted rate on a franchise, making them
the exclusive F&B partner for the tournament, or giving them a discounted rate at
making the title sponsor. The price for these three things would normally be
approximately $800 million, $200 million, and $350 million respectively. However, all
of this money starts coming in starting 2023.

 Apart from this, you are open to any other financial arrangements that could help
offset Waker’s loss. This includes entering into new contracts for F&B services (or any
other kind of commercially lucrative contract), or granting an increase in advertising
airtime to Waker during the World Cup. Increased airtime could be worth up to $100
million – however, you don’t ideally want to commit to an increase worth more than
$50 million, as more than this would anger your other partners.

 You are Jamie Shutterland, the CEO of Cricket Arandalia. The management has sent
you to this negotiation with full authority to negotiate any deal that ensures Waker
will stay on as title sponsor and not threaten to withdraw the $2 billion, so that it can
organise the World Cup.
