DEVELOPING THE SKILLS TO FIND MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIP

DISCOVERY APPROACH
-is a method of inquiry-based instruction, discovery learning believes that it is
best for learners to discover facts and relationships for themselves.
BRUNER AND DISCOVERY LEARNING
Jerome Bruner believes that, discovery is essentially a matter of rearranging
or transforming evidence to assemble new insights.
1. Increase in Intellectual Potency
It is manifested in the development of the child’s skill to gather information,
process the information gathered, draw observation from them, and finally formulate
conclusions.
2. Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic motivation refers to behavior that is driven by internal rewards. In
other words, the motivation to engage in a behavior arises from within the
individual because it is naturally satisfying to you.
This contrast with extrinsic motivation, which involves engaging in a behavior
in order to earn external rewards or avoid punishments.
A child who develops this motivations moves through learning to gain control
to his/her environment.
3. The Heuristics of Discovery
As a pupil gets more and more exposed to the process of reflective thinking
and discovery, he/she acquires the skill necessary to use the process.
4. Conservation of Memory
The discovery of association between facts and principles greatly reinforces
the capacity of a child to remember.
STRATEGY IN USING THE DISCOVERY APPROACH
Presentation of Examples
This is the first step in the strategy. The teacher presents a number of
examples which clearly show the elements needed to form the conclusion.
Observation
The practice of asking pupils to observe sharpens their senses. Frequent
exercise in the art of observation quickens their intellectual ability.
