Activity: Human Organ System

This activity by introduces the main organ system in the human body. It is designed to have the
students work in groups of six to match a system with its function and the major organ system with
its function and the major organs of that system.

Body System Puzzle

Directions: Cut out card, present it to students as a puzzle. Clues can be given if the students are
having difficulty figuring out the puzzle.

System Description Organs Involved

1. Skeletal System Supports the body; works with Bones, cartilage


muscle for movement, produces
red blood cells.
2. Circulatory System Carries materials to the body’s Heart, veins, arteries, capillaries
cells. Takes away wastes.
Works with Respiratory system.
3. Muscular System Helps the body to move; helps Muscles, tendons, muscle in

4. Respiratory System Puts oxygen into the body and Lungs, nasal passages, trachea,
removes carbon dioxide. Works bronchi

5. Excretory System Removes waste from the body. Kidneys, bladder, urethra

7. Nervous System Controls all body functions, Brain, spinal cord, nerves

8. Immune system Fights off disease. Lymph nodes, white blood

9. Reproductive System Produces sex cells to create Female & Male genitals,
children, controls female & hormone glands

10. Integumentary System 1st barrier to disease and the Skin, sweat glands, hair, nails
environment; controls body
temperature, keeps body fluids
inside the body.
11. Endocrine system Producing secretions that are Pituitary gland, pineal gland,
distributed in the body by way thyroid gland
of the bloodstream.

Procedure:

1. Introduce the objective: to be able to match a body system with its function and the major
organs of that system. Match the cards according to system – function – organs.
