The ion-exchange (IE) process in glass enhances mechanical and optical properties, thereby broadening the scope applications.Interesting
physical properties of metal nanoclusters with respect to the bulk phase have been the subject of many research works in recent
year. These nanocomposite materials are expected to ?nd application in a spread of technological ?elds of optical waveguides and switches
[1], due to the striking nonlinear optical properties.Such a composite system can also be used as gas sensors, heterogeneous catalysts and
in bio-medical tools [2].Such heterogeneous systems are fabricated by incorporating metal ions into a suitable glass matrix, and then the
incorporated metal ions are forced to aggregate by means of proper subsequentenergetic treatments such as irradiation with low-mass ion
beams, heat treatments and laser irradiation [3].
