SUGGESTED SUPPLEMENTS aOR ile) Guitar Studies Grade 2 (B94052) ‘This is an in-depth supplement to Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method Grade 2. This book contains solos, picking studies, technique builders, chord studies, and speed studies. Moreover, every concept presented in the Modern Guitar Method Grade 2 is expanded upon in this excel- lent supplementary book. GRADE TWO Congratulations! You are now ready to enter Grade 2 of the world’s premier guitar method, The material in this book has been carefully graded. Each page contains valuable guitar studies. It is advisable for the guitar teacher to accompany the student on all duets and it is also recommended thai the student learn both parts. All harmony studies are elementary andelaboration upon them is left to the individual instructor. This method places emphasis on picking technique and posi- tion playing. The student will now be introduced to further studies in alternate picking, triplets, and the keys of F, D minor, D major, and B minor. The second position is introduced in this text. Finally, valuable technical studies are contained on thirds andright- hand picking technique. Play-Along Teaching ee Cassette or CD Gs The Mel Bay Modern Guitar Method Grade 2 stereo cassette or CD is ideally suited both to teach and to reinforce the concepts found in this book. Each musical example is played with a solo part and an orchestral and guitar rhythm section, The student is encouraged to use the recording to learn each of the musical examples found in this book and to develop technical proficiency by playing along with the recorded examples. To promote greater speed with proper accentation, the alternate stroke should be developed. ‘The following study will seem difficult at first; but, by practicing slowly and placing the downstrokes on the beats followed by an upstroke, the desired result will be accomplished. It may be written from pitch. The key signature will be that of the major key of the chosen pitch. It is written upward in sharps and downward in flats. An interval is the distance between two tones or the difference in pitch between two tones when sounded. Intervals are measured upward from the lower tone to the higher. Intervalshave number names and type names. For example, a 3rd could be major or minor depending upon the distance. ‘The staff degree occupied by the lower note and the staff degree occupied by the higher note are both included when determining the number name of the interval.
