DT Trade Scanner
A Unique Routine Only Available in
Dynamic Trader

The Dynamic Trader Software includes a valuable routine for

identifying short-term trade set-ups called the DT Trade Scanner. Some
of these set-ups may also be used as trend-continuation entry strategies.
The DT Trade Scanner will search any portfolio of futures or stocks
at the end of the day and identify which markets have made the trade set-
up as well as the buy or sell price-trigger to enter the trade. The Dynamic
Trader Trading Course which is included with the software describes the
initial protective stop-loss level for each trade.

Dynamic Trader Portfolio

A portfolio of any number of futures contracts or stocks may be built with
Dynamic Trader’s portfolio builder. The portfolio example below shows a
small portfolio of seven futures markets. The portfolio could just as well
include an unlimited number of individual stocks
The data files that make up the portfolio do not have to all be in the
same sub-directory. Dynamic Trader may built the portfolio from data files
located in any number of sub-directories on the hard drive.

Short-Term Trade Set-Ups

There are seven short-term trade set-ups included in the DT Trade
Scanner. The user may chose which set-ups to include in the scan. The
scan routine will then test every market in the portfolio to see if any of the
set-ups are valid at the end of the day. Several of these trade set-ups are
described in Connor’s and Raschke’s book, Street Smarts, which I highly
recommend.
Version 2 of Dynamic Trader which is scheduled to be released in the
fall 1997, includes several additional set-ups for a total of 19. Several of
the set-ups from Jeff Cooper’s recent book, Hit and Run Trading will be
included.

Trade Set-Up Options

Each of the trade set-up parameters may be chosen by the user. The default
parameters are the ones that are most reliable for the widest range of
markets. The picture below shows the parameter options just one of the
set-ups, Inside Bar / Narrow Range.

Study Detail Table

The portfolio of seven markets shown above was scanned at the end of the
day of March 4. Four markets met at least one of the trade set-up
parameters. The DM met the New Low (NL) parameters. In this case, the
DM made a new low for the past twenty days and the new low is at least

three days from the previous 20 day low. Traders would buy one tick
above the Buy-Reference price if the market rallied on March 5.
Both the BP and Cattle met the Narrow Range (NR) parameters
(narrowest range day of the past seven days). The Buy and Sell Reference
prices represent the high and low of the narrow range day’s on March 4.
Traders would buy one tick above the Buy Reference or sell one tick
below the Sell Reference for March 5.

Sugar met the Inside Bar / Narrow Range (IB/NR3) parameters on

March 4. March 4 was both an inside-day and the narrowest range day of
the previous three days. Traders would buy one tick above the Buy
Reference or sell one tick below the Sell Reference price for March 5. You
might want to review your charts of these four markets for March 5 and
see which trades were triggered on that day.
The DT Trading Course describes the protective stop-loss levels for
each of these trade set-ups as well as how to incorporate these signals into
the trading plan.

The objective of technical analysis is to identify high probability trade

included those set-up strategies that have been found to be consistently
reliable in a wide variety of markets. Version 2 of Dynamic Trader will
include a total of 19 trade set-ups in the DT Trade Scanner routine.
