SEEKING
Equity actor/singers. Tuacahn Center for the Performing Arts encourages and actively seeks
actors of all Ethnicities and Nationalities and Gender Identities in their 3 show 2020 summer
season.

PREPARATION
A brief song to show your vocal range and style (or two very brief cuts that show
contrasting styles). Total audition time should not exceed two minutes. Bring picture and
resume.

BELLE - Female, 20-25 yrs old. Contemporary Soprano with
strong mix/belt. Range: E3 - F5A. A vibrant, intelligent girl
with beauty, who wants more out of the life than an ordinary
existence. She is optimistic, fun-loving, caring, and eager to
experience life.
BEAST- Male, 25-40 yrs old. Tall and physically imposing.
Range: A2 – F4. A Prince transformed into a terrifying beast
for his lack of compassion. He is hot-tempered and
commanding, but has a warm, loving heart buried far beneath
his gruff exterior.
GASTON - Male, 25-40 yrs old. Range: A2 - E4. The
egotistical, ultra-masculine, villain determined to marry Belle.
He is manipulative yet can also be charming and earnest. Must
be physically imposing. Must move/dance well.
LEFOU - Male, 25-35 yrs old. Range: B2 - F#4.
Tumbling/acrobatics a plus. Must be able to move/dance.
Physical humor/prat falls as must for this role. Gaston’s
bumbling sidekick. He is loyal, energetic, and optimistic, but
not quite the brightest guy.
MAURICE - Male, 55-65 yrs old. Range: Bb2 – Db4. Belle’s
loving, eccentric father. A child at heart and inventor in his
own world.
COGSWORTH - Male, 40-55 yrs old. Range: A2 - E4. A
tightly-wound, enchanted mantle clock and the head of the
Beast’s household. He is uptight, strict, and punctual but also
hard-working, faithful, and thorough.
LUMIERE - Male, 35-45 yrs old. Range: F#2 - F#4. A suave,
debonair, enchanted candelabra. He is a loyal and steadfast
servant. Must move well. French accent/dialect necessary.
MRS. POTTS - Female, 45-55 yrs old. Warm mezzo soprano.
Range: F#3 - G5. A warm-hearted, maternal enchanted teapot.
She is loyal, caring, and playful.
BABETTE - Female, 25-35 yrs old. Range: C4 - F5. Must move
well/dance. A saucy, enchanted feather-duster, and the object
of Lumiere's affections. She is the playful, gorgeous, seductive
French maid.
MADAME DE LA GRANDE BOUCHE - Female, 40-55 yrs
old. Operatic Soprano. Range: C#4 - D5. A former opera diva-
turned-enchanted wardrobe. She has a caring, refined, larger
than life personality.
MONSIEUR D'ARQUE - Male, 35-55 yrs old. Range: D3 - A4.
The scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum. He is a
dark, sinister villain who aides Gaston in his plot to marry
Belle.

ANNIE - Female child. Bright, Strong Belt, A3-D5. Dynamic
personality. Annie is an 11 years old girl and is a complex,
tough, streetwise urchin who is surprisingly vulnerable when
she thinks she might lose what has become most important to
her: her newfound "family." Seeking an excellent actress who
can act motherly, independent, overwhelmed and hopeful.

OLIVER WARBUCKS - Male, 40s/50s. Warm baritone/ A2-


F4. Oliver Warbucks is the daunting millionaire who made his
fortune during World War I as an industrialist. Must appear
middle-aged, self-assured, confident and gently authoritative.
Warbucks is awkwardly affectionate toward Annie at the start
and then finds himself completely charmed by her.

MISS HANNIGAN - Female, 30s/40s. Character Belt/ Bb3-


F#5. Strong Mover. Miss Hannigan is a definite "has-been."
Her distaste for her job should ooze from every line she
delivers. Seeking a strong actress with excellent comic timing.
She must have a strong versatile singing voice and be able to
create a character that is larger than life. Strong Mover.

ROOSTER HANNIGAN - Male 30s/40s. Character Belt/B2-


F#4. Strong Mover. Rooster Hannigan is Miss Hannigan's
swindling brother. He is flashy, self-assured and the "smooth
gambler" type.

LILY ST. REGIS - Female, 20s/30s. Character Belt/Bb3-F#5.


Strong Mover. Lily St. Regis is the sleazy girlfriend of Rooster.
She is naturally funny, has a good sense of timing and is a
strong singer.

GRACE FARRELL - Female, 20s/30s. Soprano Mix/D4-C5.


Grace Farrell is Oliver Warbucks's calm, cool and classy
secretary. She appears business-like when dealing with Miss
Hannigan and Warbucks, yet maternal toward Annie. Always
appears "in control;" she is sophisticated, likable, sweet and
confident.

PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT - Male 50s/60s.


President Franklin D. Roosevelt is enlisted by Oliver
Warbucks to help locate Annie's parents. He will be pushed
onstage in a wheelchair and delivers a momentous line about
"A New Deal!" Seeking an excellent actor.

EDMOND DANTES/THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO -
Male, 25+. Character ages from 25 to 45 years old. Most of role
lives in the older age listed. Bari-tenor, A to A. Any ethnicity.
Leading Man with a pop/rock sensibility. Born Edmond
Dantès, The Count of Monte Cristo will use this alias in his
pursuit of revenge on his enemies; he is twenty-five years old
and naive at the beginning of the story and will be betrayed by
his enemies, Mondego, Danglars, and Villefort; he will be
forced to spend 18 years of his life in prison; when he finally
escapes, Edmond is a new man, set on vengeance, who will
systematically punish each one of the people he considers evil

MERCEDES - Female, 22-30+. Character ages from 17 to 37.


Most of role lives in the older age of the character. Any
ethnicity. Vocally must have a HUGE Belt sound and a palette
of pop colors to employ. Belt/mix from G to E. Originally a 22-
year-old Catalan and Dantès’ fiancée at the beginning of the
story, she will be an unwilling dupe in Dantès’ betrayal and
will eventually marry Mondego, one of Dantès’ childhood
friends and betrayers whose actions are prompted by his desire
to have her.
MONDEGO - Male 25+. Character ages from mid 20s to mid
40’s. Most of role lives in the older age of the character. Vocally
a high baritone, A to G#. Any ethnicity.Originally a 25 + year-
old Catalan in love with Mercedes, he will conspire with
Danglars to denounce Dantès as a traitor to the Republic in
order to gain Mercedes' love for himself; he will eventually
marry Mercedes and become a rich Count in Paris, but will
grow bored and abusive of Mercedes.

ABBE FARIA - Male 45+. Vocally a Baritone to F#. Any


ethnicity.He becomes Edmond Dantès' friend while they are in
prison; a comic; he will teach Dantès about God, providence,
patience, education and learning, hope and strength; he will
serve as Dantès' major inspiration and will influence the man
that Dantès will become; although he dies in prison, he tells
Dantès where to find a magnificent treasure, hidden on the
Island of Monte Cristo.

LOUIS DANTES - Male 40+. Vocally Baritone, B to D#. Any


ethnicity.Dantès' father, he will die in poverty soon after
Dantès is imprisoned.

DANGLARS - Male 25+. Vocally a bari/tenor - A flat to G.


Any ethnicity.Character ages from mid 20s to mid 40s. Most of
the role lives in the older age of the character. Originally the
Ship’s Purser on the same ship as Dantès. His jealousy of
Dantès' sudden good fortune and rise in position will prompt
him to entice Mondego to join him in framing Dantès as a
traitor to the Republic. He is a man without scruples capable of
the darkest deeds.

VILLEFORT - Male, 25+. Character ages from mid 20s to mid


40s. Most of the role lives in the older age of the character.
Vocally, a “Javert-type” with a darker tone but a strong upper
register from B flat to G (optional B flat). Any ethnicity.A
staunch royalist, and a public prosecutor with heavy ambitions
at the outset of the story, when he is about 27 years of age; he
will betray Edmond and have him thrown in jail in order to
secure his own ambition: to be a prosecutor and magistrate.
LOUISA VAMPA - Female, 25+. Vocally B flat to F#. African
American, Latinx, Asian preferred — but can be any ethnicity.
The leader of the Italian bandits, she is a friend of the Count of
Monte Cristo; among other things she helps him win Albert's
favor by capturing him at the Count's wishes; a sexy pirate
queen; a great fighter.

JACOPO - Male, 25+. Vocally a Tenor with a range from C#


to A — emphasis on Acting. Any ethnicity.Prototype: Luis
Guzman. The smuggler who saves Dantès from the sea; he
recovers the treasure with Dantès; Jacopo later becomes
Dantès'/Monte Cristo's manservant and friend; must be a
great fighter.

M. MORREL - Male, 40+. Vocally a Baritone with a range


from B to F. Any ethnicity.Dantès' employer and the owner of
the Pharaon; he has a thriving shipping business called
"Morrel & Son" at the beginning of the story, but over the
course of the years he will become ruined. He is one of the
"good" characters in the story, he will be rewarded for his
friendship and goodness by Dantès.

ALBERT MONDEGO - Male, 18+. Vocally a Tenor or


Baritone to an E. Any ethnicity.Age 18. The son of Mercedes
and Edmond but raised by Mondego. Through his friendship
with Monte Cristo and his discovery of the betrayals of his
father, he and his mother will set out to make a new name for
themselves free from the taint of his Mondego’s past.
