Abstract

This investigatory project Natural Ingredients as an anti hair fall agent

aims to determine the use of Spinach, Honey and Olive Oil as an
alternative for treating hair loss as well as making the person’s hair
shiny, to be able to help people to prevent hair fall. Through this
project, we can help people who suffer from hair fall.

This project Spinach, Honey and Olive Oil as an anti Hair Fall Agent
would be effective for the people who have hair fall. It is the best hair
vitalizer and the best ayurvedic hair growth agent with the use of
natural ingredients. Our project is effective because it can really stop
your hair fall and keep your scalp well-fed with nutrition and balance.

Hair has played a significant role in our society, it is associated with

youthfulness and beauty in women and virility and masculinity in men;
so it’s no surprise that hair loss can make many men and women feel
self-conscious. Spinach is rich in vitamins K, A, C, B2, B6, B1, E,
manganese, zinc, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients help
nourish the scalp and hair, ensuring healthy hair growth. Honey has
rich antioxidant properties which prevent damage, keeping your scalp
and hair healthy. Olive oil nourishes the follicles with essential
nutrients and unsaturated fats. It also helps seal moisture in the hair
shaft, preventing dryness and making hair more manageable.

Spinach, Honey and Olive Oil have many nutrients to prevent Hair Fall
and now, we prove that this can be a good component for treating
Hair Fall.

Chapter I
Introduction
A. Background of the Study

Hair fall may be caused by so many factors. Lack of

protein can be a factor too. Some suddenly go on crash diets
that exclude protein or who has an improper eating habit may
develop protein malnutrition. When this happens, the body will
help save protein by shifting growing hairs into the resting
phase. Increased hair shed can occur 2 to 3 months later.

Other factors are physical and emotional stress. Hair has

a programmed life cycle: a growth phase, rest phase and
shedding phase. When you have a really stressful event, it can
shock the hair cycle, pushing more hair into the shedding phase.
While Emotional stress is less likely to cause hair loss than
physical stress, but it can happen, for instance, in the case of
divorce, after the death of a loved one, or while caring for an
aging parent. Another factor is because of excessive use of hair
products.

That is why our group conducts Spinach, Honey and

Olive Oil as an anti hair fall agent.

B. Statement of the problem

Generally, this investigatory project aims to find out if Spinach,

Honey and Olive Oil can be used as an anti hair fall agent.
Specifically, it aims to answer the following questions:
3
1. Can spinach, honey and olive oil will be effective on treating
hair fall?

2. How effective is the spinach, honey and olive oil as an anti

hair fall agent?

3. Is there a significant difference between the commercialize

hair fall shampoo from this investigatory project?

Hypothesis:

 Spinach, Honey and Olive Oil can be used as an agent

for hair fall.

 It can make the hair prevent dryness and make it more

manageable.

 Has many nutrients that can be helpful in treating hair

fall.

C. Objectives and Rationale

 To make a herbal hair oil that uses natural products and
can have some effect like the ones with chemical.

 To make a herbal hair oil with less chemical in its content

to minimize hazards in our environment.

4
D. Significance of the Study

This study aims to determine the effectivity of honey, spinach

and olive oil as an anti hair fall agent, since this study deals with the
assessment of individuals, most especially people who gets their hair
thinner because of crash diets and by using hot styling tools. It also
aims to help the teens to help them to get rid of hair fall because of
excessive use of hair products for boys and by heat styling and many
other salon treatments for girls.

In realizations to this investigatory project, it will be able to

help the affected people suffering from their hair fall to get a more
affordable and likely comparable to those products that are highly
commercialized in which it will help to gain more presentable beauty
to the high-standard modern day society.

E. Scope and Limitations

The study made use of Honey, Spinach and Olive Oil are often
useful. It has the ability to seal moisture in the hair shaft, preventing
dryness and making hair more manageable.

Definition of Terms

 Hair - a protein filament that grows from follicles found in the

dermis, or skin. Hair is one of the defining characteristics of
mammals. The human body, apart from areas of glabrous skin,
is covered in follicles which produce thick terminal and fine
vellus hair. 5
 Protein - are large biomolecules, or macromolecules, consisting
of one or more long chains of amino acidresidues.

 Glucose - is a simple sugar with the molecular formula C6H12O6.

Review of Related Literature

Spinach

Spinach is a member of the Amaranthaceae family and its

scientific name is Spinacia oleracea. It is a green, leafy vegetable that
is cheap and affordable for everyone. It is a rich source of minerals,
vitamins, pigments, and phytonutrients. All of these together make
spinach very beneficial for a number of vital processes. Due to the
vast range of benefits from this vegetable, it is advisable to consume
spinach on a regular basis. One of the biggest reasons why spinach is
so important and valued around the world is that it is very durable. It
can even survive through the winter and be just as healthy in the
spring.
Spinach can be eaten raw as a part of many salads, and it can
also be cooked or sauteed down into a reduced form. This can be
eaten as a side dish vegetable or added in a number of recipes for
soups, stews, and casseroles. It is native to the Middle East and was
cultivated in Persia thousands of years ago. From there, it was
brought into China, approximately 1,500 years ago. It made its way
into Europe a few hundred years later and quickly became a staple in
a number of cultural cuisines. 6
It has been used in various parts of the world as a medicinal
plant that is specifically included in cooking to help increase overall
health.
History of Spinach
Spinach is thought to have originated in ancient Persia (modern
Iran and neighboring countries). It is not known by whom, or when,
spinach was introduced to India, but the plant was subsequently
introduced to ancient China, where it was known as "Persian
vegetable". The earliest available record of the spinach plant was
recorded in Chinese, stating it was introduced into China via Nepal
(probably in 647 AD).
In AD 827, the Saracens introduced spinach to Sicily. The first
written evidence of spinach in the Mediterranean was recorded in
three 10th-century works: the medical work by al-Rāzī (known as
Rhazes in the West) and in two agricultural treatises, one by Ibn
Waḥshīyah and the other by Qusṭus al-Rūmī. Spinach became a
popular vegetable in the Arab Mediterranean and arrived in Spain by
the latter part of the 12th century, where it was called raʼīs al-buqūl,
'the chieftain of leafy greens'. Spinach was also the subject of a special
treatise in the 11th century by Ibn Ḥajjāj.
The prickly-seeded form of spinach was known in Germany by
no later than the 13th century, though the smooth-seeded form was
not described until 1552.
Honey
Honey is a sweet, viscous food substance produced by bees and
some related insects. Bees produce honey from the sugary secretions
of plants (floral nectar) or other insects (aphid honeydew) through
7
regurgitation, enzymatic activity, and water evaporation. Honey is
stored in wax structures called honeycombs. The variety of honey
produced by honey bees (the genus Apis) is the best-known, due to
its worldwide commercial production and human consumption.
Honey is collected from wild bee colonies, or from hives of
domesticated bees, a practice known as beekeeping.
Honey gets its sweetness from the monosaccharides fructose
and glucose, and has about the same relative sweetness as
granulated sugar. It has attractive chemical properties for baking and
a distinctive flavor when used as a sweetener. Most microorganisms
do not grow in honey, so sealed honey does not spoil, even after
thousands of years.
Honey provides 64 calories in a serving of one tablespoon (15
ml) equivalent to 1272 kJ per 100 g. Honey is generally safe, but may
have various, potentially adverse effects or interactions upon
excessive consumption, existing disease conditions, or use of
prescription drugs.
History of Honey
The oldest known honey remains were found in the country of
Georgia. Archaeologists found honey remains on the inner surface of
clay vessels unearthed in an ancient tomb, dating back some 4,700–
5,500 years. In ancient Georgia, several types of honey were buried
with a person for their journey into the afterlife, including linden,
berry, and meadow-flower varieties.
In ancient Egypt, honey was used to sweeten cakes and biscuits,
and was used in many other dishes. Ancient Egyptian and Middle 8
Eastern peoples also used honey for embalming the dead. The fertility
god of Egypt, Min, was offered honey.
In ancient Greece, honey was produced from the Archaic to the
Hellenistic periods. In 594 BC, beekeeping around Athens was so
widespread that Solon passed a law about it: "He who sets up hives of
bees must put them 300 feet (91 metres) away from those already
installed by another". Greek archaeological excavations of pottery
located ancient hives. According to Columella, Greek beekeepers of
the Hellenistic period did not hesitate to move their hives over rather
long distances to maximise production, taking advantage of the
different vegetative cycles in different regions.
Olive Oil

Olive oil is a liquid fat obtained from olives (the fruit of Olea
europaea; family Oleaceae), a traditional tree crop of the
Mediterranean Basin. The oil is produced by pressing whole olives. It
is commonly used in cooking, whether for frying or as a salad
dressing. It is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and soaps, and
as a fuel for traditional oil lamps, and has additional uses in some
religions. There is limited evidence of its possible health benefits. The
olive is one of three core food plants in Mediterranean cuisine; the
other two are wheat and grapes.

Olive trees have been grown around the Mediterranean since

the 8th millennium BC. Spain is the largest producer of olive oil,
followed by Italy and Greece. However, per capita consumption is
highest in Greece, followed by Spain, Italy, and Morocco. 9
Consumption in North America and northern Europe is far less, but
rising steadily.

History of Olive Oil

The olive tree is native to the Mediterranean basin; wild olives

were collected by Neolithic peoples as early as the 8th millennium BC.
The wild olive tree originated in Asia Minor or in ancient Greece. It is
not clear when and where olive trees were first domesticated: in Asia
Minor, in the Levant, or somewhere in the Mesopotamian part of the
Fertile Crescent.

Olive trees and oil production in the Eastern Mediterranean can

be traced to archives of the ancient city-state Ebla (2600–2240 BC),
which were located on the outskirts of the Syrian city Aleppo. Here
some dozen documents dated 2400 BC describe lands of the king
and the queen. These belonged to a library of clay tablets perfectly
preserved by having been baked in the fire that destroyed the palace.
A later source is the frequent mentions of oil in the Tanakh.

Dynastic Egyptians before 2000 BC imported olive oil from

Crete, Syria and Canaan and oil was an important item of commerce
and wealth. Remains of olive oil have been found in jugs over 4,000
years old in a tomb on the island of Naxos in the Aegean Sea. Sinuhe,
the Egyptian exile who lived in northern Canaan about 1960 BC, wrote
of abundant olive trees.

Chapter III
Methodology
Materials:

 Spinach
 1 Cup of Honey
 1 Cup of Olive Oil
 Container
 Bowl
 Blender

Procedure:

1. Pluck the leaves of this spinach and throw away the stem part of the
veggie.

2. In a bowl, mix a cup of olive oil and a cup of honey (this will
naturally lighten your hair texture and give it a natural brown shine,
which is attainable only with parlor products).

3. Now add the leaves to it and toss this mixture well.

4. Once you have mixed them all well, add them to a blender and
grind it into a very fine paste.

5. The paste should not be too runny or thick and must be creamy
and nice in consistency.
11
6. Detangle your hair before you can apply this and let your scalp be
clean while you apply this oil.

7. Once you are done, apply this to your hair. This will bring shine to
your hair and keep you away from hair fall problems

Chapter V
Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations
A. Summary

It seems that spinach is not that good to collaborate with oil

and honey and leave it with days. But the experiment conducted had
a positive effect because it can help the people who suffer from hair
fall. All in all, the feedback was good, the product is effective and we
met our aim so it is a success.

B. Conclusion

The creation of the herbal hair oil made of spinach, honey and olive
oil is a welcome expansion for those people who suffer from hair fall.
The materials used were available in the market and the process were
feasible and easy. In conclusion to that, spinach, honey and olive can
be used an anti hair fall agent. It has a significance difference
between the commercialized products and it is really effective.

C. Recommendations

The researchers highly recommend this study to the following:

1. To those who will use the product, we recommend you to put

shampoo after you try the product to make your hair smell
good and for those who will make this product we recommend
to use fresh spinach to make it last longer, we also suggest to
put some scented extracts on it so that it would smell good.
13
2. To scientists, we recommend to do more research on how to
prevent hair fall and find a substitute for commercialized hair fall
products that can’t harm the environment and doesn’t contain
any chemicals.

3. To those who will be having an oral defense, the panelist

suggests that you should not use contractions and you should
be careful in choosing a title.

Reflection

Nathaleen Patricia S. Bongcaras – provided the materials, performed

the experiment, organized all the requirements,
proposals, written reports, printed outputs,
research, financier

Doing the investigatory project was a hard task. It takes time and
effort to make the Investigatory Project successful. You will also need
to be patient and you need support from others. But when you
perform the experiment you will enjoy it and you will discover and
learn many things.

It’s really fulfilling when my parents were proud of me

because I made this product out of natural products. I really hope
that this investigatory project will be useful when I go to college. I
want to help my classmates to know that spinach, honey and olive oil
can be used as an agent for hair fall. This activity thought me that
there are many things that you can enjoy and you can also learn 17
from it. In doing this product, I learned that you should try and try to
make your product successful. In short, you need to be patient.

Louis Antonio Llarena - Gave proposals, helped in finalizing the

investigatory project and bought the clearbook.

Within this activity, it is true that the hair is the crowning

glory not only for women but for everyone. We must always stay
healthy. It is not bad to use commercialize products but we must limit
ourselves for too much products not only within our hair but for our
body because it may cause harm to us.

We may also use our creative minds to create substitutes or

alternatives that we know it is healthy for it is made with natural
ingredients and made at home by us.

18
Hannah Faith L. De Leon - Gave proposals, performed the experiment
and bought the ingredients.

Our plan for this IP is to try to make the best solution for hair
loss. It can be an asset of our said proposal so that it would be
essential to the people who experience hair loss.

Also we would like to share our knowledge by making this

product with affordable and more natural ingredients for the best
outcome.
