Project Proposal
"Subaqueous Facades"

Flood Zone:
The surreal experience of inhabiting a luxurious paradise that is at the same time a
fragile ecosystem, so close to being overrun by water

Sponge Exchange:
The harsh reality of how fragile our world's coral ecosystems are.
THE PLAN
BROADSTROKES
The Outside of The Exhibit:

"The outside of the exhibit will be hinting at what is occurring on

the inside. This will be a seductive and surreal experience in
which what is obfuscated by water through electronic processing
and unique sound sources, is then unveiled as one progresses
inside." This is the future of an underwater Florida.

Instrumentation and Set up

Majority processed and fixed elements
A long table hosting electronics and microphones.
Fixed Vocalist/Narration Elements
Metallic Percussion that can be submerged in water and
processed

The Inside of The Exhibit:

A paradise in preparation for a failing ecosystem. The text and
sources in here will be obvious warnings that contrast the
submerged outside of the exhibit.

Instrumentation:
Moving performers that will be using phones and tablets, looking
at real estate listings, resorts, yacht sales, etc
Florida Real Estate Ads will be played through their phone speakers,
emphasizing how great florida is

Moving vocalist that warn audience and phone performing members

of the failing ecosystem and how Florida is not as it seems

Photographers and Videographers documenting the performance

double as "tourist"
THE PLAN
SPECIFIC TO EACH EXHIBIT

The inside is the present of Florida

Flood Zone:
Higher contrasting, brighter colors, but a serious topics
Surreal images, painted walls, overwhelming nature

near, and they will be given harmonic guidelines that unify the music
within the exhibit.

Instrumentation:
Ocean Drum
Rainstick
1 Waterphone
Woodwind Quintet Spread Out(Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon)

Sponge Exchange:

Instrumentation:
2 Flautist that wear flippers, playing aleatoric material. They will
occasionally stop and warn the phone performers, as they rotate
outside of the three screens

The material will be similar between both flutist, emphasizing the

swirling effect on the screens.
THE PLAN
ENDING

The final minutes will be nearly silent, with only underwater

type sounds playing (maybe the phone performers will play the
sounds off their phones). There will be a conductor, conducting
no performers in front of the photography. The phone
performers will unify near the photos to make sure the
audience realizes that something has changed - the inside is
being overwhelmed by water.
