1. (i) Prove that angle of repose is same as the value of limiting angle friction?
(ii) A uniform sphere of weight W rests between a smooth vertical plane and a smooth plane
inclined at an angle with the vertical plane. Find the reaction at the contact surfaces.
(iii) Determine the mass moment of inertia of a rectangular plate of size a x b and thickness
about its centroidal axes.
(iv) What is the difference between certroid and centre of gravity?
(v) Derive the equation for motion of connected bodies?

2. (a) Two forces of magnitude 20N and 40N are acting on a particle such that the angle
between the two is 1350.If both these forces are acting away from the particle, calculate
their resultant and find its direction.
(b) State and prove Lami’s theorem.

3. A right circular cone of radius R at the base and of height h is placed with the axis of the
cone along x-axis.Find the location of the centriod of the volume of the cone.

5. (a) What is angle of repose? Prove that angle of repose is equal to the angle of friction.
(b) A beam of span 8m carries two point loads of 10kN and 15kN at 3m and 5m from the
end A respectively. Determine the beam reactions by the principle of virtual work.

6. A particle moves along a straight line with a vvelocity v= 3-t2-2t +4


elocity given by the equation v=2t
where v is the velocity in m/s and t is time in seconds. When t= 2 seconds ,the particle is
found to be at a distance of 10m from a station A .Determine (i) acceleration and
(ii) displacement of the particle after 8 seconds. [14]
