SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 4

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. identify prepositions in sentences;
b. manifest enthusiasm in reading a story; and
c. write sentences using the given prepositions.

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Prepositions
Materials: book, pen, paper and laptop
Reference: English 4 Learning Guide pages 332-334

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Drill: “I’m alive alert awake”
5. Review
The teacher will ask the following questions:
a. How do we distinguish fact or opinion?
b. Give me an example of a sentence which is FACT and OPINION.
6. Motivation
The teacher will show pictures and ask the following questions:

a. Describe what have you seen in the pictures.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Unlocking Difficulties
a. naughty- behaving badly
b. bin- a box that is used for storing things
c. kittens- a young cat
2. Activity
Group the pupils into two. Let them read a short story with the title “Tessie and the
Kittens”. Let them looked at the underlined words from the story.
3. Analysis/Discussion
The teacher will ask the following questions:
a. What kind of words are these?
b. What do the underlined words show?
c. What do we call them?
d. What other prepositions show location?
The teacher will discuss the meaning and uses of prepositions.
Prepositions- are words that show the location of persons, animals or things.
Examples: in, at, around, over, behind, by, along, inside, outside, and near.

Some prepositions also show time relationships.


Examples: before, after, for, from, during, through, and until.

In the sentence “I went to the store before I made dinner.” what does the
preposition before describe?

5. Application
The teacher will divide the class into 3 groups. Each group must write sentences
using the given preposition.

IV. Evaluation
Underline the correct preposition in each sentence.

3. People bought fruits and vegetables (from, off) the farmers.
4. People learned about the local news and Market Day (from, off) each other.
5. (Besides, Beside) the vegetables, flowers, and animal shows, there were cooking
contest.

V. Assignment
Choose the prepositions in each sentence. Write them in your notebook.

5. We went over the bridge in our new car.
