Electromagnetics involves the study of Maxwell's

equations and their application to the analysis and design

of devices and systems. Maxwell's equations represent
one of the most concise statements of the fundamentals
of electricity and magnetism.

In real-world applications, it is rarely

necessary to consider all possible
electromagnetic phenomena that may occur.
Instead, a more practical understanding of
electromagnetics comes from considering a
number of special cases, including
electrostatics, steady currents,
magnetostatics, quasistatic alternating
currents, inductive phenomena, microwave
engineering, and optics.

A laser is a device that emits light through a process of optical

amplification based on the stimulated emission of
electromagnetic radiation. The term "laser" originated as an
acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of
radiation".
