REPORT ON DIAGNOSIS OF VALVE PASSING IN HP HEATER – 6

Observation:

In unit-5, HP heater – 6 is bypassed due to tube leakage. Steam side & water side isolation valves are
closed. Yet due to passing in isolation valves in steam side & water side, the complete sealing is not
able to achieve. Hence, blocking of punctured tube in HP heater – 6 is not possible in operation. This
issue is discussed with operation team in site today. By using IR camera, passing of isolation valves
is confirmed & the temperature values are given in this report. For HP heater – 6, steam side design
pressure & design temperature are 2.3 Mpa & 498 deg C & for water side, design pressure & design
temperature are 25 Mpa & 221 deg C. At present, the steam side pressure & temperature are 0.1 Mpa
& 127 deg C. At present, the water level in HP heater is maintained by the control valve in the drain
circuit to condenser. As long as the existing parameters are less than the design parameter, it is not an
issue to have the HP heater-6 in bypassed condition.
