 Realize the importance of adopting an effective rewards system

Asks the learner about the previous topic.
What is employee relations?
How important is effective employee relations in achieving the goals of the company?

Motivation:
Show a video to your learners.
Asks the students on what they observe or notice on the video?
“Para kanino ka bumabangon?”
As a student what is your purpose of going to school?
Let assume that you are an employee what do you expect with the company you are working?
For teacher: the video is about how a person motivate his self in achieving something.
(Integration within the curriculum) that motivation encourages individuals to work enthusiastically, often
performing more work that what is required.
Since you are motivated in everything that you do what do you expect in return?
As a student?
(Lets assumed) as an applicant or an employee?

Definition of terms
Reward – gift, prize or recompense for merit, service or achievement, which may have a motivating effect on the
employee
Monetary reward – refers to money, finance or currency reward
Non-monetary reward- refers to intrinsic rewards which do not pertain to money or finance

Organizations offer rewards system to attract knowledgeable and skilled people and keep them motivated and satisfied
once they are employed in their firm. Further rewards promote personal growth and development present fast
employee turnover

Managements offer different types of rewards:

MONETARY REWARDS – pertains to money, finance or currency


a. Pay / salary – financial remuneration given in exchange for work performance that will help the organization
attain its goals; example : weekly, monthly, or hourly pay, piece work compensation
b. Benefits – indirect forms of compensation given to employees for the purpose of improving the quality of their
work and personal lives; health care benefits, retirement benefits, education benefits
c. Incentives – rewards that are based upon a pay-for-performance philosophy; it establishes a baseline
performance level that employees or groups of employees must reach in order to be given such reward or
payment; examples : bonuses, merit pay, sales incentives
d. Executive pay – a compensation package for executives of organizations which consist of five components: basic
salary, bonuses, stock plans, benefits perquisites
e. Stock options – are plans that grant employees the right to buy a specific number of shares of the organization’s
stock at a guaranteed price during a selected period of time
NONMONETARY REWARDS – rewards which does pertains to money, finance or currency; refer to intrinsic rewards
that are self-granted and which have a positive psychological effect on the employee who receives them.
a. Award – nonmonetary reward that may be given to individual employees or groups/teams for meritorious
service or outstanding performance; trophies, medals, or certificates of recognition may be given instead of cash
or intrinsic rewards
b. Praise – a form of nonmonetary, intrinsic reward given by superiors to their subordinates when they express
oral or verbal appreciation for excellent job performance.

Application

1. Make a group with six members.


2. Select a leader who will report the output
3. Each member of the group will recall a past event in their lives when they were praised or received an award for
a job well done by their parents, teachers, or friends.
4. In 1 whole sheet of paper every member of the group will write the accomplishment and the reward that they
received.
5. Then the group will answer question; did that praise or positive remark have any effect on your psychological
well-being? Explain your answer
