Introduction
It was a Filipino adoption from a Korean Movie in 2013 by Lee Hwan Kyung.
The father was accused that he kidnapped, rapped and murdered a girl when he
was following her to buy a Sailor Moon bag which was his daughter’s favorite. He
was sent to jail and was sentenced to death, his daughter studied well and become
a lawyer. She reopened the case and proved that her father was innocent.
Starring Aga Mulach as Joselito “Lito” Gopez and Bella Padilla as Yesha.
Directed by Nuel Crisostomo Naval, distributed by Viva Films. It was released last
December 25. 2019 with the running time of 120 minutes. It was produced
nationwide, part of the Metro Manila Film Festival or MMFF. It earned over 350
million pesos so far.
Character Mapping
The characters in the movie Miracle in Cell no. 7 are mostly related to jail.
Almost all of the characters are good hearted persons. Starring Aga Mulach as
Joselito “Lito” Gopez with mental disability, that was sent to jail innocent and the
father of a lovely child Yesha portraited by Bela Padilla (adult) and Xia Vigor
(child). Yesha was a humble, cute and pretty child. She loves her father very much
and they enjoy every single day. The little girl, Jenny Yulo who died was the
daughter of Secretary Yulo (Tirsu Cruz III). Secretary Yulo really loves her
daughter as much, that’s why his hatred comes out. He really wants justice for his
daughter. Joel Torre as Bos “Sol” Soliman, Jc Santos as Mambo, Mon Confiado as
Choi, Jojit Lorenzo as Bong and Soliman Cruz as Tatay Celso are the inmates. The
inmates are very kind, and even if they are in jail, hey still have a heart that they
used to show love, care and kindness. they are very supportive to Lito that they
did all of their best to grant the wish of Lito to meet his daughter Yesha. It was
very hard for them to take the kid inside of the jail, but because of their unity, they
successfully get the kid inside. They were very happy at first but at the same time,
they become sad at the end. John Arcilla was Sir Johnny in the movie who adopted
Yesha. He was a police and he believed that Lito was innocent but he cannot do
something because his role only is to assist the punishment given to the
imprisoned person. He still support Yesha until she grow up and re-opened
Joselito Gopez’ s case.
 Plot
The introductory part of the movie Miracle in Cell no. 7 was when Yesha
wanted a Sailor Moon bag but it was sold already. One day, the father of Yesha,
Lito, received hid monthly salary and planned to buy a Sailor Moon bag on the
other stores. Out of nowhere, the daughter of Sec. Yulo told him that she knows a
place to buy a Sailor Moon bag and he must follow her. While Lito is walking and
the daughter of Sec. Yulo is running because of excitement, the rain fell down, and
because of it, the floor was very slippery.
As followed, the girl is still running even if the rain is continuously falling
and she suddenly slipped and accidentally touched the hollow block near her. The
hollow block hit Sec. Yulo’ s daughter’ s head. Lito immediately saw her and
performed CPR that he learned. He removed the button of the pants so that the
girl could easily breath. While he is performing the CPR, a woman saw him and
shouted for help, the investigators taught that Lito kidnapped, raped, and
murdered Sec. Yulo’ s daughter which caused Lito to be imprisoned and he was
sentenced to death.
Time goes by, Lito was informed for the upcoming hearing at the court.
Since Lito has a mental disability, he studied and prepared well for the court
hearing. His good hearted inmates help him so that he could win it. Sir Johnny was
together with him going to the court but before the hearing starts, Sec Yulo
scared Lito and said that if he will not own the cases, what happened to his
daughter will also happen to Yesha. When the hearing starts, to show love and
care to his daughter Yesha, he owned all the cases and pronounced “guilty” by the
judge. Everyone cries for it was not true and he will be sentenced to death.
It was declared that he will be sentenced to death in the said date. At first,
they celebrated Yesha’ s birthday inside the jail together with Lito’ s inmates. Each
and every one of them gave a birthday gift to Yesha and the most precious gift is a
Sailor Moon bag, a favorite of Yesha, which is from her father Lito. Afterwards,
Lito thank and say goodbye to all of his inmates and inmates wrote a short
message at the back shirt of Lito. Lito leaved the jail and his inmates sadly. In that
time, when Lito needs to say goodbye for the last time, out of nowhere, Yesha
didn’t know that her father was already sentenced to death. They cried a lot for it
was the last time they would see each other.
Yesha was very sad that it inspires her to be a lawyer when she grow up.
Yesha reopened the case of her father. She know it would be hard but she believed
that nothing is impossible. With the support of Sir Johnny who adopted her and the
inmates. They strongly fight and prove that her father Joselito “Lito” Gopez was
completely innocent, because of the evidences that was not studied and observed
weel by the court, the judges declared ”not guilty” to Joselito Gopez. Yesha was
filled with joy to her face as she proved that her father is innocent.
Theme
The film Miracle in Cell no. 7 is showing the grate love of the father to his
daughter even if they come up with life challenges. They showed us that nothing is
impossible in between hearts that separated. Even though the father has a mental
disorder, he is still trying to support whatever his daughter wants. The movie
shoes injustices and inequality just like when Sec. Yulo won over an innocent
citizen, Joselito “Lito” Gopez.

Literary Appreciation
Miracle in Cell no. 7 was really a good movie. If you will watch the movie
closely, you will feel the great love of the father to his daughter. In this movie, you
can see scenes that are really happening in real life. While watching this film, it
was very heart melting. It made us realize that every minute is important to be
with your family. We cannot buy happiness and of course, love. Being separated
with your father would be very hard especially for younger ones. This made me
feel so inloved with my father, that he worked hard for us and he deserves to be
loved by his own family. Your mood to your father will change if you will watch this
grateful movie. We highly recommend this movie to all of you because this is an
amazing movie, it will change how you feel about your father, learn moral lessons
and see the beautiful miracle in your life.
Ratings
If I would rate this movie out of ten, I will give a perfect rating. The movie
Miracle in Cell no. 7 is really great. The adoption of it from the original Korean film
was so amazing. The casts are very good at acting and imitating personalities. You
can learn lessons from it and it shows the love of the father to his daughter. The
director did well to create the movie. They had a good pick of song choices which
helped the movie become more heart melting. This film really deserves an award.
