Delay in work— Quick decision is not possible which also results delay in
office work.As the top line managers have to take the decision only so we
have to wait for their availability.
Manager Is Overburdened-In centralization, top managers are over
burdened with authority and responsibility while managing each and every
activity of the organization. He/she cannot devote sufficient time in other
major issues. It tends to decrease working efficiency of the organization.
They are not able to focus on major issue that company is facing currently.
Low Employee motivation:- — In centralisation there is no
subordinate’s initiative in work because they are required to do such
works which they were asked for. Workers work like machine which
results in no involvement in work and absence of zeal.
Lack Of Environmental Adaptation-Business environment is dynamic
and therefore, it changes according to time. In business, it is essential to take
quick decisions to resolve problems of concerned departments or branches.
Centralization is not applicable in dynamic environment as flexibility will not
come promptly from the top level.
Centralization Is Unsuitable For Large Organization
Centralization is impractical in large business organization having various
branches in different locations. It is difficult to communicate managerial
decisions to different operating levels in the management hierarchy. Top level
managers cannot effectively supervise and control all the activities of the
organization.
Possibility Of Power Misuse-Centralization of authority at the top level may
result in under-utilization of power. Top level managers may exercise their
powers on the basis of their personal judgement. This may lead to misuse of
authority if the managers lack proper skills and ability.
2. Remote control—Better supervision is not possible as the executives are under heavy pressure of
work. Slackness in work is developed in the absence of better control and supervision.
3. No loyalty— In centralisation there is no subordinate’s initiative in work because they are required to
do such works which they were asked for. Workers work like machine which results in no involvement
in work and absence of zeal. All these factors stand as barrier in the development of loyalty to work.
4. No Secrecy—Secrecy is not possible in centralised set up organisation because here orders and
Advantages of Centralization :
1. Reduced cost—The standardised procedure and method helps in considerably reduction of office
cost. Office cost is reduced as it does not emphasizes on more specialists, and more departmental
central administrative control. The same executive supervises the work and same type of office
personal leadership facilitates quick action, aggressive marketing and attainment of pin-pointed
objective or purpose,
4. Flexibility — Centralisation permits flexibility and adaptability of the organisation to the changed
circumstances. Occasional pressure of extra clerical work is handled with the existing staff.
6. Better co-ordination — Centrlisation facilitate better coordination among various operations. Direct
control and supervision are facilitated which results in less likelihood of conflict of authority and
duplication of work.
