In 5 year’s time Pam will be twice as old as Sam was two

years ago. Pam is 8 years older than Sam. How old is Sam?
Let: n=sam's age
In 5 yrs,
n+8+5=2(n-2)
n+13=2n-4
2n-n=13+4
n=17 yrs old

At present, Phil is 8 years older than Bob. If Phil was one year
younger, his age would be double Bob’s present age. How old
is Bob?
Let: n=bob's age
n+8=phil's age
n+8-1=2n
n+7=2n
2n-n=7
n=7 yrs old

It took train 50 seconds to pass a tunnel that was 1000 m

long. It took the same train, travelling at the same speed, 75
seconds to pass a bridge that was 1625 m long. How long
was the train?
Speed=D/T
=(1625-1000)/(75-50)
=625/25
=25m/s
Length of the train:
=(25×75)-1625
=1875-1625
=250 metre

A car tank is 1/10 full. After adding 34 liters, it became 2/3 full.
How many liters does it hold when full?
2/3 -1/10= 17/30
34 divided by 17 = 2
2 x 30 = 60

Ans. 60 liters

1 1/2: 2 1/4: 3 pieces.Give the measurement of each part
1 1/2n + 2 1/4n + 3n=36
(3/2n+9/4n+3n=36)4
6n+9n+12n=144
27n=144
n=5 1/3

1 1/2(5 1/3)=3/2 (16/3)=8

2 1/4(5 1/3)=12
3 (5 1/3)=16

1.the difference between the square of two consecutive odd

integers is 128.what is the product of two integers?
2. A cylindrical pencil is 20cm long and has a diameter of
1cm. The diameter of the lead is 0.5 cm. What is the volume
in cubic centimeters of the wood of the pencil?
Let x be the 1st odd integer. X + 2 be the 2nd odd integer. (X+2)² - x² =
128
Solving for x
X² +4x +4 -x² = 128
4x + 4 = 128
4x = 124
X = 31.
So, x + 2 = 33
Let D=diameter of pencil, d=diameter of the lead and L=length of
the pencil. The volume of the wood, V, is
V=pi*((D/2)²-(d/2)²)*L
