Joyce Alcantara’s poem “You Will Never See Me Fall”
perfectly sketches the feelings of a determined person.
The poem has very strong lines:
Nothing can tie down a man of fortitude. However, the
debate has been unending for those who believe that man is ranged against predestined forces of life. To them, fate determines our joy and sufferings. Yet, how far fate meddles with the affairs of man is an unanswerable question. Those who succeed owe their success to their efforts. On the contrary, failure is attributed to destiny. Many people think that the course of a man's life on earth is decided by fate, but this is a wrong idea. A man's future depends on his own self. If he wastes his time in idleness, or depends too much on others or loses heart in the face of difficulties, he will fail in life. If, on the other hand, he makes proper use of his time and opportunities, and follows his aim in life with patience and perseverance, success is sure to come to him. Even ordinary abilities will bring him success if he makes good use of them.
Tommy Lasorda has rightly said that “The difference between
the impossible and the possible lies in a man’s determination.”
It is true that man is the architect of his own fate. He can
achieve what he desires to achieve. It is wrong to think that man’s life on earth is decided by fate. It is not fate but sincere efforts and indomitable courage that would his fate. Man is distinct from other living beings because of his willpower and intellect. God has bestowed the immense power of rationality and determination upon humankind. Man, if wills with all his heart, can achieve whatever he wishes for. A determination is a pathway to the success. If one wants to achieve his/her goals then he/her must adhere to the plan even after countless confrontations with the failure. Failure does not depend upon fate. Indeed, fate is just an imagination of human mind to console the heart after every failure. The truth is that man can make his own fate. Nothing is impossible in this world. Humankind has accomplished many tasks that were considered impossible in the past. Failures do affect our aims, but people who swap their aims just because of one failure are the most cowardice ones. When determination combines with hope then success is guaranteed. Fate has nothing to do with the failures and the success. It is the man alone who has to decide which path to choose.
Nothing is impossible for a man who possesses self-confidence
and self-reliance. Misfortunes, if they come, should be treated as test times, they test your endurance, your forbearance, your fortitude and the dusk always turns into the dawn. Man can make or mar one’s life fame and fortune is there but nothing is impossible to be achieved for a man of a strong will.
A determined person does not care about his potential; rather
he focuses on the goal he set for himself. The life is not easy, everyone has to confront failures, but such unwanted failures must not shake the determination. If one keeps struggling despite the hard times he/she soon will reach the destination.
The ancient masters like Aristotle propounded the theory that
the tragedy in the life of man issues from a flaw in his own character. The rebound of his own acts contributes to his ruin. Man himself is the architect of his destiny. Whether a man suffers or prospers will depend upon a man’s temperament, his action and his doings. Good action leads to good results.
